"Stars," plural, is the headline.

Thank you for reading for me as usual....now you see what I mean by your constant ability to correct things you see wrong?

The reason for my post is that it took me, a self proclaimed Hawks Bandwagon jumper to initiate the post, while we cant get enough of the D Rose posts. Even Hoffy made a D Rose post and ignored Kane,

Kane's career isn't over like Rose's. So no need to start 3 threads. He'll be back.

I suppose it serves me well when people hire me to proofread and revise their copy.

The reason for your post, as best I could tell, was that you, as a Bulls fan first and foremost, were lording it over the rest of us that Derrick Rose's season-ending injury is getting more column inches than Patrick Kane's season-ending injury. And here I thought beating the Panthers last night was as Pyrrhic a victory as could be. We talked about Kane plenty last night and I posted that he's probably out well through the playoffs. I don't know what more navel-gazing we need to do about it.

Rose will be back as well. You assume Kane will be back in 7-10 weeks? Playoffs in 5 weeks.

Seven weeks, but he'll be out up to ten weeks, and the Blues should polish off our minor-league blue line in four games.

I don't know. Come puck drop in October he'll be in the line-up. Can't say the same for D-Rose. Sucks for the guy.

Basketball is more popular than hockey. I get it and it doesn't bug me. I've accepted a long time ago that people like shitty things.

Out 12 weeks. What would that be, Western Conf Championship series at earliest?

The bigger story is that this injury news didn't even make the Tribune today.

More like September for training camp. Theyre done for this year.

They're done for longer than that. The Canadian dollar is plummeting at a time when, thanks to huge television contracts that pay in Canadian funds, the salary cap has never been more contingent on it. In the absolute best-case scenario of a $72MM cap, Toews, Kane, and Crawford will account for 37.5% of that. It will probably be closer to $70MM, so make that 38.5%. Seabrook, Hossa, and Sharp will either be gone or continuing their steep declines here. Whenever the Hawks contend again, they won't look anything like they do now. The window is closed.

I am intrigued to see if he is going to use the extra cap space and grab some guys for a run this year or if he starts selling. Hopefully someone emerges that is desperate and dumb enough to take Crow if they sell.

No one's taking Crawford until the offseason, if then. I don't think you can unload him without exposing him to an expansion draft, and his no-move clause might even protect him from that.

The Hawks have to sell at the deadline. The era is over. Get picks/prospects, try to draft in the mid-teens, start building for 2018.

God you are a cynical pessimist. The Blackhawks will still be the most talented team in the NHL next year. They will be contenders until at least 2020.

I know it doesn't always seem that way but there are other teams in the league besides ours. The Islanders and Blues are more talented right now, to say nothing of next year with more attrition for Seabrook/Sharp/Hossa, just to name two.

EDIT: the Kings, Ducks, and Bolts are as good, better now, and/or will be better going forward.

So you've set yourself up to panic either way on this?

Never mind, I'm wrong, Sharp is going to have a great age 34 season in a league for 25-year-olds.

You started by panicking because those 3 would have to leave due to $$, then changed it to "or continuing their steep declines here."
Then you shouldn't be upset if they have to leave. It can't go both ways.

BTW, I've been saying for years that Sharp should be gone. Too late to get anything for him now.

I'm saying that either way, you're coming out with less than you imagine having on paper. You either get a weak return or you have the player, but not the player as you conceive of him. I don't think I'm wrong.

So winning games doesn't matter in hockey either?

The Blues won 6 more games than the Hawks last year.
Due to that, the Hawks simply were NOT going to beat them in the playoffs.

edit: I don't think the Hawks can beat STL without Kane this year.

I don't think they were going to beat St. Louis with them. The Lehtera-Steen-Tarasenko line was going to annihilate our defensemen.

So if Stan upgrades the blue line significantly with this newfound $, you think they beat STL?

We have three capable defensemen. Say we get one. We're still short at least one, to say nothing of having lost Kane and possibly a forward on the roster to get the defenseman (probably Petry, maybe Michalek). Maybe if the Blues all decide to get injured at the same time like they did last year. That would help a lot.

I would feel better going forward if they were trading off guys who are going to be unsignable under the cap while developing their replacements at the same time. All there is now is a holding tank in Rockford of guys who have not gotten it done in the 5 minutes Q might give them. They either get pissed and traded or they become lifers down there.

I would much rather seen Hartman over Carcillo, just about any of the D over Roszi and Nordstrom over Richards all season. It might cost you a few regular season points but at least you aren't stunting their growth and then screwed when you need them to actually provide solid contributions in say a time like this.

St Louis won. They had more regular season wins and looked better all year.

NICE fight ON THE BENCH in this PIT/Caps game
