Is he really better right now?

Is it because the preds went high on every shot and Darling might be better at blocking those just due to his size?

In game 1, I know Darling blocked everything, but he seemed to not gain control on many?

Need that guy from the COMMITTED INDIAN to answer my hockey questions!

Yes, he is better. Today marks the changing of the guard for the Blackhawks. Cro will have trade value and hopefully he'll play somewhere else next year and the Hawks can get a couple of good young players in return.

Looking for further support on that one...I assume the size doesnt hurt in this case, but was he just fresher and had a good game or is he really better? quicker? etc?

Well, the sample size is a bit small so we'll see. The fact that he is starting today says something. For whatever reason, the Hawks seem to play better with Darling in net. Darling seems quicker and has better technique than Cro right now. Cro now is like a golfer who has lost his swing and it has become a mental issue.

Maybe we should check eith Berns...he's a goalie expert right?

I thought he was just starting due to the late onslaught combined with period 1 in Game 1. Looked like confidence was shaken too much.

Yeah, I mean, again, there is no wrong decision here: Crawford was stellar at the end of the regular season, but right now is even worse than his post-injury month or so earlier in the season. Yet, I wouldn't blame Q if he had started Crawford today - back home, series tied at 1, etc. Darling, however, was a monster in Game 1, shut the Perds down and gave his team the chance to fight back. He has been at worst above-average in most of his appearances, and fantastic in some. At this very moment, he has been the much better playoff goaltender. With the difficulty the Hawks have had in scoring as of late, they need the goaltender to stand on his head, and Crow ain't doing it.

I can also see where Q is sending a message to Crawford that this is it. I think Crawford starts Game 4 regardless of Darling's performance today (unless he totally shits the bed), and if he looks horrible in that game, Darling becomes your playoff #1.

So far Darling is playing better.

I the hawks win and Darling surrenders two goals or less, there is NO way I see Cro starting game 4.

This is a message to Cro, It is letting him get his head back on straight. Cro will be back nextgame and will be #1 unless he totally blows it again then it will be over. I do though see him traded while he still has value.

At 77/79 thus far, I think you have to commit to Darling for the rest of the series barring a meltdown of his own. Let Crawford take on St. Louis or Minnesota with a clean mental slate if we get there.

I think that is the way to go. Q had some pretty strong praise for Darling after today's game so I would assume that indicates he will start until he does something to warrant not starting.

Nope.
You ride darling for the remainder of the series barring injury and horrific unforseen catastrophic nitwittery.

Darling has to start the rest of this series.

Maybe give Crawford game 1 of the next series, but with a very short leash.

Hawks seem to play with more intensity with darling so far this series.
Kinda like they sit back and wait for crow to save them?

Well I was also considering the difference in game 1 when darling came in.

So 2 games determine who should start? It's all on Cro? CSFMB Hawks expertise.

What?

If this were regular season I'd have to think crow would be right back in.

Crawford is not playing well. Did you see that? Maybe he's hurt or something we don't know.
Either way, darling won 2, Crawford none, darling has allowed 2 goals over 5 plus periods, Crawford 9 over 4. It's pretty clear who should start.

If he's hurt that's a different situation . Otherwise you're dismissing a whole season for 1-1/2 games. I want the Hawks to win and if Darling is the better goalie then I'm fine with that. I'm just not in favor of a snap decision .

The snap decision was resisted for game 2.
When he got his teeth kicked in Friday it became less of a snap decision.
Perhaps the Perds just got his number and he'll be fine when and if they make it to the next round.

Not a finalist for the Masterton: Hamburglar, Letang, and Dubnyk made the shortlist. Letang, okay, he had a stroke, but Dubnyk? Scott Darling overcame alcoholism. All Dubnyk had to overcome was the Phoenix Coyotes.
