During this past season when Kaner broke the collarbone, the Hawks got cap relief and traded for Vermette, which was only allowed due to the injury?

I assume they will get some cap relief this year as well. Is there some Unable To Report list in Hawkey that allows them to use his cap space, yet if and when he returns they are allowed to stay over???

The Kings were allowed to put Voynov on long-term injured reserve while he was suspended by the league for a criminal investigation, but I believe he also had an injury at the time. Kane does not, unless you can count his broken sense of basic human decency as an injury.

Even if they're able to do this, free agency is gone. How can they get good players now? Trades, yeah, but you have to give up good players to get good players. So how does that help?

I suppose at the trading deadline you could get the good players from the teams that are out of it for draft picks if you still have Kane's money available.

The Kings got away with it because Voynov tore something during the offseason fucking around. Not sure how the Hawks could pull it off with Kaner. Even with all the national / Canadian writers I read / follow I haven't seen a clear definitive answer yet on Cap relief.

Although the CBA says salary and bonuses that are not paid to suspended players do not count against the cap, Daly clarified that the forfeited salary is still paid, albeit to the Emergency Assistant Fund. “By agreement of the NHL and NHLPA, the player’s full salary continues to count against the team’s cap,” Daly told the website.

There's your answer, fishbulb. Looks like Kane fucked the Hawks without consent, too.
