Never saw a guy get so many chances to play with the coaches outlining exactly what they want from him and then have him go out and not do it. Seems like a nice enough guy and hey, he parleyed one hot stretch into never having to work again so good for him but he's just not very good at what he does so adios. My guess is eventually Boston lands him to not make up for losing Lucic.

They held on way too long....he should have been dealt to the first team that expressed any remote interest.

I don't think any teams did.

It would be a gift from God if he refused to report to Rockford.

This is probably better suited for the brag about something no one cares about thread, but my nose is featured prominently on his foundation's webpage -

I'm pretty famous.

Chris Kelly just went down in Boston. Their GM is dumb enough to pull the trigger on Bickell, right?

Welp, Bickell is on waivers again. I'd feel worse about how the game chewed him up and spit him out if he didn't have another year on his contract.

He could really use a change of scenery...Mentally, he can't get out of his own way. Unfortunately, he couldn't rework his contract even if he wanted to...only way to deal him is to eat probably 3/4 of his contract and Stan is loathe to do something like that.

You can't retain more than 50% of a contract's value, but I don't think anyone wants him at any price. He's about as finished as I've ever seen a guy be. This is like Gordie Howe with the Detroit Vipers in the mid-'90s, but worse.

Lolzers. He had a playoff season and was a key reason why this team won a cup. I'll never shit on his parade because of it.

Nor should anyone else. No Bick, no second Cup.

Still , the contract that they gave him after the Cup really hamstrung the time and they got ZERO return on it. They should've let him walk and have someone else overpay for it.He was nothing before it and nothing after it. Had a hot 20 game stretch at the right time. He's hockey David Freese.

He had a very good 2011 season as well, don't forget. In fact, the under-market contract he signed after that was why we overpaid so much for him a couple years later.

I should have remembered that

Quote:
What is a retained salary transaction/trade
When a team trades a player, they have the option to retain a part of their salary (and cap hit). The team who retains the salary then pays the retained percentage of the salary, and also retains the percentage of the cap hit until the contract expires. The following requirements must be met to retain salary:
The percentage retained cannot exceed 50 percent of the player’s salary (including all bonuses) and Salary Cap Hit.
The same percentage must be retained for both the player’s salary and Salary Cap Hit, and cannot be modified.
All teams are limited to a maximum of 3 retained salary contracts per season.
Teams cannot retain an aggregate amount of more than 15 percent of the Salary Cap Upper Ceiling.
Players’ contracts are limited to 2 retained salary transactions per contract.

Once a retained salary transcation has occured, there are various limitations, such as:
A team cannot reacquire a player whom they have retained salary from for a minimum of one year after the date of the transaction, or unless the player's contract expires or is terminated prior to the one-year date.
All teams involved in a retained salary transaction will have cap implications if the contract is bought out or terminated.
Teams who retain salary on a players contract, will have the full value of the cap hit act against the teams salary cap total, regardless of whether the player is reassigned to the minors by their current team.

Back to Rockford. Good lord. Can't they loan him to whatever beer league Darling played in down in Louisiana? Thats probably more his speed. I still don't get whats so hard about being responsible on D and standing in front of the fucking net like they paid you to do.

There was some talk by Detroit media/fans of going after Bickell after the 2013 season--weak free agent mkt + Bickell had a good run in the playoffs.

Always thought Bickell and Detroit's Justin Abdelkader were interchangeable. But it looks like Abdelkader improved while Bickell's gone to shirt. Could be the difference in front-office/coaching focus. Wings more on developing talent in house (at least nowadays) vs the Bowman way of piecing together Cup winners around a core, in-house or free agent market, doesn't matter.
