Sounds like he's going to transfer soon with a stunt like this....The speculation includes Northwestern (where he would only have to sit out this year), NIU and Tennessee (to be re-united with a Morgan Park teammate)

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3020149

Notre Dame quarterback Demetrius Jones did not board a bus departing for the trip to Michigan, Coach Charlie Weis said in a statement Friday.

Jones started Notre Dame's opener, a 33-3 loss at home to Georgia Tech. He was pulled as starter last Saturday against Penn State in favor of freshman Jimmy Clausen.

Jones' status at Notre Dame is now in doubt.

Against Georgia Tech, Jones was 1-of-3 passing for 4 yards and ran the ball 12 times for 28 yards. Four of the six drives he led ended in three-and-outs, and he fumbled the ball away on the other two possessions.

"At 2:30 today, while boarding the bus to Michigan, I was notified that Demetrius Jones had decided not to make the trip," Weis said in a statement. "I have not spoken to Demetrius and can only say that he missed the team bus. Any additional comment would be without all the facts."

Last time we got a domer transfer, it turned out to be Zak Kustok.

The reasoning behind Jones going to NU would be the fact that classes have not started yet and if he enrolls before the 12th day of the current semester, that semester counts towards his 1 year penalty. He might be the best 'recruit' NU ever got.

And that turned out great.

This could be a real coup for NU.

wow...
that would be huge for NIU.

I can't blame him. Honestly i thought about it when Clausen singed his letter.

Yep they were the reported leader but Tenn and NU were brought up. NIU would love to have a kid like him though I'm not sure they run the right offense for a QB like him.

o.k.
I've heard NIU and Georgia Tech within minutes of each other.

The interesting question is when did NIU start classes. Technically, he had to be enrolled by the 12th day of the semester if he wants to play next year. I assume that he's in the clear if he is saying he wants to play next year.

Per the Tribune, ND will not release Jones from his scholarship. He will have to pay his own way this year.

I read that. Seems like a stupid, petty move for ND. Take the high road and show recruits you are a first-class institution. I don't know what they gain from not releasing him.

They will regret that decision. Jones may have done things the wrong way but the public relations battle will be lost by doing this. Maybe he should call Bruce Weber and ask about coaches in the Chicago area.

That's right. All the love and PR they got for naming Brown as their D coordinator will be for naught if they don't grant his release. Chicago coaches will blackball Notre Dame (which I would take so much joy in).
