I had a small bit of curiousity that Depaul was 2-0 in the big east and decided to go to the georgetown game last evening. That was the hardest two hours of basketball i have ever watched. Georgetown make depaul look like exactly what i consider them, a lower division school trying to be a major market player. Rather then trying to attack the basket and get hibbert fouled out of the game, they threw up missed 3 after missed 3. Just horrible. It is a tragedy what has happened to this program after Dave Leitao left.

Wainwright has landed some high profile recruits. We'll see what happens. He seems like a dope, but he's succeeded elsewhere...

DePaul has sucked since Ray retired. Yes, they've had the occassional quality player come through (Kleinschmidt, Booth, Richardson, Simmons, Chandler) but they've never been able to really excel. Part of it I strongly feel is the fact that they really don't have a home court. Allstate is a nice arena but it's not on campus and not even close to campus. The other part is the 'name' DePaul had isn't that big anymore. DePaul is just another school.

My bigger disappointment is that the big knock on joey meyer was his inability to recruit local talent. The high schools hated him. I felt like that relationship was being repaired with leitao, but this year all you have is one kid from chicago. I realize chicago high school basketball is not the pinnacle, but you have to do better then that locally.

There was supposedly funds in place to build a statement in the cabrini green area about 10 years back, but after i graduated i never heard another thing about them. They used to sell out the horizon when they were good back in the day, but your absolutely right.

I was a big DePaul fan back in the day (I'm 33) but at this point, they are a blip on the radar. What's most interesting to me is a school in a similar situation -Marquette(private, play off campus), can be considered a top 25 program perenially while DePaul looks to be continually a bubble team for the NCAAs.

HV is right, playing in the dump that was Rosemizon kills that program. What recruit would be impressed by games played in a seldom filled airplane hangar way the hell in the middle of nowhere (compared to campus). It's bad enough that the 'campus' always feels dead, but gameday/site as well? Why they didn't take the first chance to jump out of there and to at least the UC mystifies me.

Worse yet, does anyone else think that DePaul will have to find a Calipari/Pitino salesman type before they matter again? :(

Last i had heard, the problem holding back a close to campus stadium was money (what a surprise). That also impacts who they select as coach. What they really need is a football program to generate new revenue and recognition.

Leitao was that guy but he saw the writing on the wall and went to Virginia.

They thought Pat Kennedy was that guy and for a bit he was until 1) Curry didn't come 2) He lost 5 guys in two years to the NBA. After that, he decided to suspend a bunch of guys for academic reasons and the mood soured and he knew it was time to go.

Until DePaul can secure top recruits from the city (Public League or otherwise), I don't think people will even care. At least if you see a local kid playing for DePaul, it makes people want to watch them to see how the local guy is. Now, I have no idea who even starts for them but I do know they are under .500.

As bad as they might be, DePaul would be favored over Illinois, Penn State, Michigan, Iowa and Northwestern on neutral courts this season. So while they're bad, they're better than five Big Ten teams. They would be a borderline NIT pick right now. I would take DePaul's athletes over any of those other teams' players too. The question is whether Wainwright can do anything with them.
