The Chicago Bliss and other teams of the newly formed Lingerie Football League hope to put a spin on "Friday Night Lights."
Decked out in thin-looking shoulder pads, lacrosse-style helmets and skimpy uniforms, the Bliss debut Friday at Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates against the Miami Caliente.
It will be one of two home games during the four-game season. The 10-team league includes the Dallas Desire, San Diego Seduction, Philadelphia Passion and more mildly named New York Majesty.
In its promotional ad, the Bliss promises "some of Chicago's most beautiful and athletic women competing in 7-on-7 full-contact tackle football on Friday nights."
"We make no bones about it," said Stephon McMillen, media director with the LFL in Los Angeles. "We have to be able to pull fans into the arena so we looked for players that are beautiful, but they also have to be athletic and definitely have confidence."
And definitely willing to take a few hits, said Danielle Moinet, 25, who at 5-foot-10 and 125 pounds says she works out all the time.
The field is 50 yards long, and there is no punting or field goals, but Moinet said the tackles are real.
"There is absolutely no feeling better than making a solid tackle," Moinet said. "I'm looking to sack the QB. ... I love leaving it all on the field."
Former Bears coach Mike Ditka is taking an equity stake in the league, according to a news release Thursday.
At Ticketmaster, tickets run from $8 to $63. Before the game, which starts at 9 p.m., the team will host another mainstay of pro ball, a tailgate party.
