Kind of an emotional away opener. The late Coach Walker was the winningest coach at Miami of Ohio (often referred to as the cradle of coaches) and it was his alma mater as well. His widow was there.
After all the ceremonies, Cats and Redhawks took the field. Unimpresive first half with no scoring.
Actually the Cats D looked pretty good (or Miami's offense pretty bad). Second half got a kick start by a blocked punt and a TD by Downers Grove native Erin Cobb.
Mike Kafka (the new NU QB) looked much more impressive in the second half, delivering some 10+ yard receptions to Shawn Herbert. Moved the ball alot with his feet. I like that.
The dual running back combo of Tyrell Sutton and Terrell Jordan looked much better too. I think Sutton looked like he's knocked off some of the rust. Two TD's later, the game ended 21-7.
Head Coach, Orland Park native, Pat Fitzgerald did a good job managing the game. Surprised we didn't see Tyrell Sutton with more carries, but overall we did well. I'm not reading too much into the win... Miami is a really young team and it is certainly not the Big 10. Still, I'm pleased with what I saw and its something that we can build on for the next several years methinks.
