Good win for DePaul Prep against a scrappy Niles North team. I don't think this DePaul team could possibly be as good as last year's team. Jaylan McElroy allowed them to do things defensively that just aren't typical. He's irreplaceable. But they did pick up a great transfer from Whitney Young in Rykan "Extraordinary Shooting Guard" Woo.

The game against Lane will be interesting. DePaul's four lightning quick guards vs. Lane's huge front line. The Scantlebury kid is a horse. Lane threw down a few NBA type dunks vs. Phillips last night.

Always fun transitioning from football to basketball season.

- Kenwood added two big transfers and made their coach step down a week before practice started. Now their Assistant Principal is the coach for the year.

- Best teams I personally saw this summer were Rich Township and HF. Phillips looked good to but everyone bailed after their coach left after not getting paid for two years.

-The amount of bullshit heights listed of players is amazing. I am watching film of a team were playing tonight who has a kid listed as 6'5 on their teams website. He is eye to eye with a kid who is listed as 6 feet on another team's roster.

conns you going to be able to make it through basketball season? The cost of food and gas might keep you from being able to participate

Yeah, all those DePaul guards that are listed as 6'2" are about my size and I'm nowhere near 6'2".

U of I asked us a few years ago take a picture of a football player we listed as 6'5 next standing next to a tape measure as this was during lock downs and he was a relative unknown at the time. He was a legit 6'5 in socks.

Incorrect. DePaul took the CCL for the second srraight year clinching it with a 31 point victory over Fenwick on Friday night coupled with Brother Rice's loss to Mt. Carmel.

Then Seacrest

Both will bow to the Caravan

Actually, I think St. Laurence will beat Carmel Friday

- I think MC wins the rematch Friday. St. Laurence best player hit 7 or 8 threes the first time they played. He is going to have to do that again. Though it is possible. He is one of the best guards I have seen this season.

- Simeon had a horrendous loss to Kenwood last night. Blew a big lead, missed fts to put it away and failed to box out on game tying shot at the buzzer.

-Marist with a choke job tonight. Rich best player fouled out halfway through the 4th with them down and they come back to win. Rich township was probably the most talented team I seen all season, but they were constantly getting in their own way. HF doesn't have a player over six feet tall in their top 6, but they all shoot well and are very good defensively. Though Rich beat them at the Dipper. Have to handle their press and get inside to beat HF.

Evanston looks like a team to be reckoned with. George Richardson is a stud. He couldn't get off the bench at DePaul last year. I'm not sure how Kleinschmidt let a guy like that go. DePaul sure could use another big man right now. The only thing I can think of is maybe it was hard for Richardson to play Kleinschmidt's defense where every player has to be able to guard all five positions.

It's gonna be tough for DePaul this year, especially with Rob Walls, who may be their best defender, out. He could barely walk last week. He looked a lot better at the game on Tuesday but he was wearing a knee brace and limping. I doubt he'll be able to play in this tournament, but who knows. I'd like to have the healing powers of a 17 or 18 year old kid.

Deerfield didn't look that good last night. They have a single player they often look to for points.

They did play a very disciplined brand of defense which is why they beat Lake Forest.

Warren taking on #1 seed Waukegan in the Waukegan Sectional final tonight. It is a pretty crazy atmosphere to play a game. Warren was ranked #1 in the state or close to it preseason but played an extremely tough schedule and also had some injury issues. I think they are close to full strength again. They lost to Waukegan by 10 back in early December and again by 3 in late January.

Ignatius girls in the finals.

I'm old friends with a bunch of the parents. It's nice to see their kids succeed.

Waukegan got the benefit of some bad officiating against my former high school, Rockford Guilford. They won on a buzzer beater. Inbounded the ball with 0.9 left in the game and somehow they guy had time to dribble and hit a turnaround jumper. Apparently the clock started late and pictures clearly show the ball in the guy's hands with the clock at 0.0.

Oh wow, I hadn't heard that. Tough way to lose. I have to assume they don't have a replay system in high school yet.

Oof that’s rough. I’d say it was also less a pump fake and just a straight up travel. Again, one of the most unique gyms I ever played in.

I didn't notice the obvious traveling until you mentioned it.
