What, you don't think Stanford is a good team?

Stanford will prove to be a great team at the end of the year. Duke will end up being a good team. A win on the road is a nice addition to the resume

I think Stanford is the most underrated team in both polls, they are very good. Agree on Duke also.

A number of writers have Stanford ranked ahead of NU--which is odd, but shows that Stanford is gaining traction with AP voters. They've been scoring at will (well . . . almost) lately.

Not really... In 6 weeks I'd be surprised to see em ranked in top 25

Maybe.. But I see UCLA and Washington beating them.. I also see ND and either Cal or Oregon as possible losses..4 losses ain't top 25.

Almost halftime and Michigan is destroying my Purple Machine, 28-0.

:(

I really thought it would be closer than this. Nothing is working for NU today.

Let's hope halftime adjustments are miraculous...

Go Cats!

Harbaugh will only get these guys better each week, I think Michigan beats Ohio St and wins the Conference..wouldn't be surprised to see Michigan National Champs.

I couldn't see the game. Was that ass pounding as bad as score indicated.

I didn't watch, but:

7-0 after :10 seconds
21-0 after 1Q
28-0 at halftime

You tell us

Unfortunately, yes.

Opening kickoff was ran back for a TD and that was the entire tone of the day.

I turned away midway through the third quarter because it was obvious any halftime adjustments were still not working.

Final score 38-0 and that one stung. Harbaugh had that Michigan team looking like a fine tuned - well oiled machine.

They beat NU at every phase and then some.

Undefeated Iowa Hawkeyes invade Evanston this week.

Go Cats!

Northwestern is 31-44 in the Big Ten under Pat Fitzgerald.

One of the great mysteries of life: why anyone would care about NU sports (unless your kid is on the team).

Especially since the other major conference school in this state, the U of I, has been such a powerhouse in its high-profile athletic programs in recent years, right?

Went to the Penn St/NW game today. Got really good tickets on about the 45 yd line for way under face value........this was the 4th or 5th time I've been to a game at NW.

I think I know why I got the cheap tickets from the nice sorority girls outside of the stadium.
There was a 75-yr old lady directly behind me and my son who may have been the most miserable human being I have ever been around at a football game.
She constantly screamed at people to sit down, shut up, keep moving, etc. I could not believe how she treated people.

As an example: 20 minutes before game time, nothing happening on the field: a lady is walking up the steps, clearly lost, looking for her seat. She pauses near us to look at row #, and the old bag screams in her face to get out of the way because she didn't want to miss the tradition of the band leader coming out to the field. I mean I thought she knew the lady and was trying to be funny......she didn't know the lady. It was horribly awkward.
On NW game winning drive, she repeatedly screamed at the NW QB that he was "fucking stupid, stop looking the sideline and start the fucking play!!"

The NW fans all around us were pretty unique: really old and really socially awkward. It was a bizarre football crowd.
But she was extra special.

they let that game almost slip away and then finished it in dramatic fashion.

can't say the same for my team.

Let's curse at a college kid while he is playing football, at a middle of the road program, for free.

Complete opposite of the Alabama/LSU game. Lots of talent in the stands.

I was just glad that I wasn't tackled on the asphalt by some drunken frat boy this time.

I had the same experience last year at NU V. NIU. I was standing during pre game and people were yelling at me to sit down. I turned to look at them, looked at the field, looked at them again then looked at the clock and said "did the game start?" They said they wanted to see pre game. I told them they could stand up. You don't even get that kind of stuff at ND, who has some legitimately recognized traditions.

It's odd. By the makeup of the crowd, it doesn't really surprise me. I can see how some there really want to take in the wholesome (?) game experience. But as a sometime meatball who doesn't need to continually jump up and down in my seat, I've never experienced that reaction at a game there. Admittedly I've only been to about 7-8 games over the last 25 years. For some inexplicable reason, I love watching games there. My sons hate going to Solider Field, but even love the atmosphere there.

My youngest became a big fan after just one trip up for an NW/UIUC game. Go figure.
