The Catholic League and East Suburban are merging for football in 2019 and possibly all sports after 2019? That's like 24 schools. How the hell is that going to work?!? |

The conference is expected to have six divisions of four teams. Each team would play their three division games, four crossover games and two non conference games. |

How is this better? Does it save any substantial amount of money? |

One article said that the student athletes were a little upset that sometimes their closest Catholic rival was in the other league and they wouldn't get to play them during the year. Other than that, I am guessing maybe they can schedule things so the road games are closer to each other's homes? |

6 divisions with 4 teams?? That doesn't make a lot of sense. They'll play a team in conference once every five years. Are they going to do that for all sports or just football? |

They are doing that so no one gets stuck in a conference where they can go 0-5 and not make the playoffs. I believe it is football only. Last time they tried this it lasted 4 or 5 years in late 90s. |

Marian Central plays St. Ignatius next year. doug - evergreen park vs. good dolphin. The new football conference that will combine the East Suburban Catholic Conference and Chicago Catholic Conference revealed its six divisions for next season, along with the 24 teams’ 2019 schedules, on Thursday. The two football powerhouse leagues announced the merger earlier this month that will include four crossover games and three division games in the final seven games of the season. Each team will schedule two nonconference games in the first two weeks. Marian Central is the only area team in the conference, having played in the ESCC since the 2014 season. The Hurricanes are set to play in the Purple Division with St. Patrick, St. Viator and Carmel, all of whom they played against in the ESCC. Marian will have crossover games next season with Marian Catholic, St. Rita, St. Ignatius and Loyola. Its nonconference games will be against Johnsburg in the opener and Chicago Lindblom in Week 2. The Hurricanes will play Marian Catholic in Week 3, followed, in order, by St. Viator, St. Rita, Carmel, St. Ignatius, Loyola and St. Patrick. Here are the conferences. Blue Division Marist Loyola Mount Carmel Brother Rice Green Division Notre Dame St. Rita Montini Providence Orange Division Nazareth Benet De La Salle St. Laurence White Division Fenwick St. Ignatius Marmion Joliet Catholic Purple Division Marian Central St. Patrick St. Viator Carmel Red Division Leo St. Joseph Marian Catholic DePaul Prep |

it's a little bit of all of that. Marian Central has the worst drive regardless....their closest conference game is 30 miles away. |

You better check the score of that Fenwick game from this year. They will take Marmion as well. JC will most likely crush them. |

I am surprised they didn't put JC and Providence in the same division. I hope this dumb shit doesn't carry over to baseball. |

Loyola is going to kill everyone in their cross-over games. BR and MC can't be happy. |

Wouldn't three 8 team conferences (north, central & south) make more sense? |

So can this super conference take one of the playoff classes all to itself? I'm tired of seeing good teams have their seasons ended by recruiting powerhouses like JC, Montini and MC every single year in 4/5/6A. |

Montini got all the Driscoll kids...that's why they were so dominant in the 00s early 10s. |

The Catholic league wants as many playoff teams as possible. Keeping it to 4 allows for 2 non-conference games and three cross-over games, so the lower class teams can hopefully get to 5 wins and make the playoffs. |

To put this into 2018 perspective, there's a high school game in Alabama on ESPN now featuring the Bear's great grandson vs. Tagovailoa's kid brother in a battle of quarterbacks. And not surprisingly both are Alabama commits. Edit: and they have their own official video review. |
