Not a surprise by any stretch. Based on Zook's comments, he was a goner. He's making the right choice - what else did he have to prove at the college level?

I'm an Aaron Gray supporter. :-)

Actually I have nothing to root for in basketball. Year 1 of the Lickliter era is just plain old bad.

you're rallying cry could be "At least we're not NORTHWESTERN!" Carmody is, I believe, the longest tenured Big 10 coach now (correct me if I'm wrong)... NU administration can't even claim to content with mediocrity because to claim that you have to be at LEAST mediocre... NU ain't even that.

It's official:

Rashard Mendenhall said he believed long ago that a day like Thursday would come this year.

"Before the season, I sat down with running backs coach [Reggie] Mitchell and we talked," Mendenhall said Thursday. "If I had the kind of year I wanted to have and the team did the kind of things we wanted to do, this would be a decision I might want to make, to jump to the NFL."

So after leading the Illini to their first Rose Bowl in 24 years with a single-season school-record 1,681 yards rushing, Mendenhall, a junior tailback, announced his decision to leave Illinois in a news conference Thursday at his alma mater, Niles West.

His decision was assured after he received positive feedback from the NFL on his status for the April 26-27 draft. "The grades were good," he said. "That was a factor."
