My alma matter's looking pretty damned good. Kudos for showing Moser the door and hiring a Bill Self disciple.

Interesting to see traditional powers Northern Iowa, Creighton and SIU struggling this year. It's wide open for teams like Drake and ISU to take the crown this year.

I was hoping someone was going to show the Redbirds some love. Thanks Sleuth. It's too bad they had to go and blow that game against Drake the other night.

Illini Fans should jump on this wagon until Bruce gets all the best recruits again and shows off that coaching ability. ISU is rolling and that's good to see. Congrats to the Redbirds!!!

I just want to point out that I am an former redbird myself and missed the last spot as a walk on back in 95. Kevin Stallings was in his second year there. King Rice was an assistant coach at the time. I actually partied with him a couple of times. It is good to see the program turn it around. They have been on some hard times for a while now.

Go Redbirds!!

Well, they did win but I don't know if they're in the tourney quite yet. I decided to check this team out so I took my five-year old son down to Redbird Arena yesterday. A scrappy team with some athleticism. They showed they can score in spurts but it seems they have a hard time putting an opponent away. They had the big lead midway through the second half but then Wright State came back to within about five in the closing minutes. At least this team shoots free throws better than the Illini.

One more thing. Anyone watch this game yesterday? I was in the upper bowl, but the sideline reporter looked pretty good from up there. Anyone care to comment on what she looked like up close on camera? Who is she anyways?

UIC is 15-13. I can't be too unhappy about that (all things considered) with Butler and Wright State owning the conference

The only way Illinois State gets in is by winning the MVC tourney. They have 1 win against RPI Top 50 and bad losses to Eastern Michigan (RPI 200+), Northern Iowa (RPI 137).
Their RPI is good, but just don't have the quality wins this year.

Southern Illinois can make a case with wins over St Mary's (RPI 31), Drake (RPI 11) and Mississippi State. They also get to play ISU the last game of the MVC season.

True Hawk, ISU has some work to do. Win against Creighton and SIU would put them at 22-8. Win a 1st round Tourney game and drop the 2nd and you can't leave them out at 23-9. Consider:

a) 4 of eight losses to Drake twice(top 12), IU, (top 15) Kent State (23 currently).

b) RPI 49 Will go to 40 or better with 2 more W's this week.

c) No way SIU or Creighton can make a better case and the Valley gets 2 based on recent tourney showings.

No chirping from this Bird till they win the next 2. After that I squeal like a 13 year old girl at Hanna Montana if they don't get a bid.

Lunardi has ISU in the bracket this week as an 11 seed.

If that's the case, I think I'd rather see them as a 12 seed. I still think they need a good showing in this weekend's tournament. Winning the MVC tourney may actually get them to a 9 or 10 seed then.

Most Prog's have them at a 10-11 seed. Drake was draining 3's from Peoria in that final and it got real ugly real quick. Take Drake to the sweet 16 lads. Sorry Dolphin, SIU was a shell of it's old self this year. Get many more of these S.D over Gonzaga upsets in the conference tourneys and we may have a problem though.

Maybe a dumb question, but is Illinois State an accredited school? I should know this, but I don't feel like looking it up.

In order to be an NCAA school, they have to be accredited.

This will be my team to root for in the tourney. My cousin just graduated from there 2 years ago and their best player Osiris Eldridge went to my grandmothers HS, Phillips.

The the answer to that would be a resounding "YES" delivered with the panache of a pre panty wearing Marv Albert. If the following were prerecs:

1) Drinking 18oz mason jar mugs of Old Style while watching Cubs games on a smoke stained 19" screen in "The Cellar" on June 18th when you fail to Graduate on time.

2) Panty raids on fat chicks dorms, which were on average 15 stories tall, got you a phone number lettered in sharpie on the left butt cheek. Nothing like a sweet pair of size 12's floating down from the Manchester co-ed floor.

3) You hear the name "Rick Lamb", "Hank Cornley", "Rickey Johnson" or what the hell "Orlis Eldridge" and you bow towards MECCA.......i.e WATTERSON TOWER.

Bubble got burst when teams like Georgia and San Diego won conference tournies. They were probably the second to last team out behind Dayton.

It's not as if Oregon or Kentucky deserved to be in any more than them though.

I'll even go so far as to include our "Big Ten Big Brothers" (screw B & B and their midwest hoop's hating selves) in this simplistic breakdown.

Post Season:

Creighton: win
SIU: win
Bradley: win
ISU: win
MSU: win
Purdue: win
Ohio State: win

Granted, most all were favorites, so I'm ah' thinking a Drake(Terry would love that), IU(Terry would love that), Wisconsin(Terry would love that) beat down could be coming along soon. Did I miss anyone? Maybe the Gophers got a drubbed somewhere along the line and I missed it on the 2:00am Sports Center.
