The guy who should get the job is RICK MAJERUS! This is perfect! He has big time college connestions, he knows the NCAA, he loves Chicago, much closer to Milwaukee (His mother lives there) than St Louis (where he coaches now) ! This team needs an A to B guy, who could stay if things work out. |

DePaul already had the "fun to be around" guy. They just fired him. You want fireworks? Hire Bobby Knight. More importantly though,go back to that conference you came from. The Big East is killing the small school under the "L". |

At this point, DePaul is better suited to the Horizion or MVC than anything else. |

How about they go out and hire good ole Mr. good catholic himself Rick Pitino. He would bring instant credibility to the program. Chicago has tons of Italian Restaurants and Skags for him to defile. I realize this is a ridiculous thought but at least it is funnier than the Bobby Knight bullshit. I f Depaul truly wants to swim with the big fish they may as well go all in. Even if it means courting this greaseball. |

Chili, "greaseball" is a term used to demean my people (Italians). Of course, I will be mocked for bringing THAT up. That's par for the course on here anyway. |

Being of Italian decent myself I think I am familiar with the term. |

Chilli Palmer wrote: Being of Italian decent myself I think I am familiar with the term. So,does that make you comparable to Eddie Murphy or Chris Rock using the "N" word? I think slimeball would be more to the point describing Pittino's behavior in that resturaunt on that night with that floozie. |

I was referring to his recruiting style. This guy comes off as a conman plain and simple. But he wins. |

Still a mystery to me how far DePaul has fallen. Should have never left the Horizon league. |

I think DePaul CAN compete in the Big East, but they have to dramatically raise the profile of the program. > Big Time Coach with big time assistants who can recruit (Aguirre? Strickland?) > Firm commitment to build an on-campus arena and move home games to either UIC or the UC until the facility is built. > Willingness to look the other way on admissions |

It will be a tall order. |

It will be a tall order. She doesn't believe that, but she has no choice but to say that until something is announced differently. But you know it is question 1a) of any candidate she talks to in this process. My guess is that there is a lot of work being done behind the scenes, but to risk a Bears/Planet Park scenario, she needs to say publicly they are happy at Allstate. |

I heard Bernsy talking about the DePaul situation yesterday in the last 20 minutes or so of their show, and I kept hearing the name Mike Anderson, who is currently the head coach at Missouri, supposedly now the latest name being mentioned for the job on Belden Ave. Bernsy's source seems to think DePaul isn't moving fast enough to land a big name, and also dismissed all the Jamie Dixon rumors leaving Pittsburgh for DePaul. Athletic Director Jean Lenti Ponsetto's mentioning of the salary might not have been the smartest move either. |

My brother broke in and said he golfed with a Majerus relative who said he was not interested. Everyone gave me a look like a should be sitting at the kids table. It looks like I am losing my touch outside of the board as well. |

DePaul can boast all they want about wanting to hire a major name coach with the second or third highest salary in the Big East, but all the Jamie Dixon talk is nothing more than leverage to improve his standing at Pittsburgh. Ms. Ponsetto will soon find out how unattractive the DePaul job really is when she can't get the one she really wants... |

If Ben Jacobson was a choice, forget it. The Northern Iowa head coach has signed a 10-year extension, complete with a substantial pay raise, according to chicagobreakingsports.com. |

We can then DNA test you for gender and do a psych exam for sexuality and polygraph for anything else! Seriously, though, will you attend if I have that beanbag tourney this summer/late spring? I went to an event at English last week and no one showed. I went to an early morning Mully and Hanley remote before the Cubs opener. I won some tickets and a box of Planter's Big Nut Bars. I'd be willing to go to something but it has to catch me at the right time and place and I really cannot plan it in advance. |

Late this afternoon, there was a rumor about UCLA's Ben Howland supposedly being offered a great deal of $$$$ by DePaul. Then again, Howland's not about to leave Westwood for a situation on Belden Ave. that's not going to improve considerably overnight. |

Post subject: | Re: Next DePaul COACH! |
In a shocking turn of events, UCLA coach Howland is not coming to DePaul, I'm stunned. Quote: The Los Angeles Times reports: UCLA basketball Coach Ben Howland said that Internet rumors, picked by ESPN and fan websites, that he was headed to DePaul are false.
A source with ties to the UCLA athletic department said that he had received no indications that Howland was entertaining offers from other schools. "I am the coach at UCLA," Howland said. "I will never leave UCLA and will stay at UCLA as long they will have me." Get the full story at latimes.com. |

I like how SHAKE THATkeeps saying "You guys will be surprised at the end of the depaul search. There's something going on that I cant talk about, that would get people very excited." So when they hire their 7th choice, SHAKE THAT will pretend to have known all along. |
