If anyone in the North and Northwest burbs is out tonight, my band BLUSH is playing at the Penny Road Pub.

Covers…what can I say…I work for a living and like playing in a band, so fluffy covers it is.

I don’t know much about the first band, Smash….we were lumped together with them. It appears they are a bit newer and

Bigfan of Penny Road Pub, but I'm out of town for the weekend. This is kinda in Darkside's neck of the woods.

No fecal matter....I guess that rules out Jack Brickhouse showing up.

I've been to Penny Road Pub a few times over the years, but this was the first time I've played there with my band. We pretty much stay within Lake and McHenry counties, so this was a nice change of pace to move South.

This came together somewhat fast and unorganized, but ended up being a lot of fun. We played with another band (SMASH). This was their first show...ever. They did a nice job..9 of their songs were part of our regular set list. Fortunately, we have almost 5 hours worth of material so we adjusted.

A fun night and the staff there was very friendly. in-house sound is ALWAYS a huge plus, as it's a royal pain to haul and setup a PA and then run it yourself while playing.

Next up...April 18 at the Hickory Lodge in McCullum Lake. For those of you not familiar, it's basically a small town on the edges of McHenry and Johnsburg.

I might check that out. What was your set list from this weekend roughly?

Edit -- nevermind I checked out your website. I like some of what you cover but it is a strange mix to me.

You should sue them for stealing your songs.

At 42 yrs old with a career and kids to feed, my window at Rock Stardom is long closed. I love music and I love playing in a band. This pretty much limits me to cover tunes. Playing cover tunes is all about appealing to the masses. I made peace with that a long time ago and choose to focus on the fun to be had by having a few drinks and getting people to have fun. Not my choice of tunes, but I make the best of it by making them sound like me.

Typically we do a 3.5 hour show based on Two sets. We’ve been at this for 5 years, so things evolve. We always try to add new songs and throw out what doesn’t work. Over the years, we’ve found a few songs that are a bit heavier that people enjoy…hence RATM, Spirit Of Radio, and a few others. I don’t like many of the songs we play, but the masses do so w play them.

Penny Road Pub was shared with another band, so we only had 2 hours. The other band was new and we knew one member of the band. Since we have a large catalog it was easy to give them the 9 songs in duplicate and put together a really fun set list of 2 hours. We called it “Buff and Fluff” where we alternated heavier song with bubble gum. It was a blast.

Here was the Penny Road Pub Set List:
Spirit Of Radio Rush
Uptown Funk Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars
Crazy Bitch Buckcherry
We Found Love Rhianna
Lonely is the Night Billy Squier
Party IN the USA Miley Cyrus
Country Girl (Shake It) Luke Bryan
Starships Nicki Minaj
I Don't Care Icona Pop
Love Runs Out One Republic
I Love Rock and Roll Joan Jett
Shake It Off Taylor Swift
Killing In the Name Of… Rage Against the Machine
Bang Bang Jessie J, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj
Heartbreaker Pat Benatar
I Want You Back Jackson 5
Black Horse and Cherry Tree KT Tunstall
Timber Pitbull featuring Ke$ha
One Way or Another Blondie
Locked Out Of Heaven Bruno Mars
Any Way You Want It Journey
Don't Stop Believin' Journey
Kiss Me Deadly Lita Ford
Good Feeling Flo-Rida
So Hott Kid Rock
Jessie's Girl Rick Springfield
You Shook Me All Night Long AC/DC
All About That Bass Meghan Trainor
Sweet Emotion Aerosmith
Home Sweet home Motley Crue

Nothing wrong with playing covers. You're never to old to jam original shit, either. I like Penney Road. Did you book the show through Bob?

Paul from 'Live Chicago Music" booked the show.
We've used a few different "promoters" over the years and struggled. This was our first show with Paul and he is already miles ahead of the others.
1) he was at the show
2) He promoted the hell out of it on FB
3) Communicated very well regarding setup times, etc...

I look forward to booking more shows with him.
