Irish hit most of the best spots. I'd particularly second the breakfast at the White Gull Inn (Stuffed french toast and the best hash browns ever..seriously!) and the Stone's Throw Winery (it is actually good California-style wine...not the fruity stuff in most other DC winerys) and the Sister Bay Bowl (good food & the old time bowling lanes add atmosphere).

I'd also toss in a recommendation for the Greenwood Supper Club if you are looking for a classic Wisconsin Supper Club and the Coyote Roadhouse on Kangaroo Lake for a rustic bar & grill. Aunt Bees pies and preserves (Gills Rock) are always worth a stop. Fish Boils are sort of cool but not all that tasty IMO. If you want to try one, I'd again suggest the White Gull Inn since they use fresh fish. Finally - the breakfast at Al Johnsons (goats on roof) is not worth the price or wait. Enjoy! :D

I have not been to the Greenwood or Coyote roadhouse - thanks for those tips Zippy

Aslo I would second the thought of avoiding Al Johnsons for the same reasons

Bayside would be a good place to watch the Bears and Pack - it will be crowded and likely a mixed crowd, so no need for camo. Unless the Bears win

Northern Grille would also be a good option. If you do get there, I would recommend the Moose Drool beer on draught if they have it. Also, anywhere in DC that you can find Island Wheat beer - it's solid.

Washington Island is a good 12+ mile bike ride around very deserted roads and makes for a quiet, relaxing afternoon on the bikes. However, it can be windy, so be prepared for a workout...

Heading up here tonight for the weekend. Wanted to see my brother in San Francisco but couldn't justify the outrageous airfare for a long weekend.
Looks like a 3.5 hour drive up and this is the last weekend of the off season so the prices at the resort were reasonable and they throw in a bunch
of gift cards to use around town and in the resort. Going to do some swimming and hot tubing and actually we both are getting a massage tomorrow
afternoon. Likely check out the Badger game in the evening. Hoping it is relaxing and low key. Staying in Egg Harbor, I'll have to see if we can
hit any of the spots off the Irish list.

If you're from Deerfield, the only thing to do in Door County is drown.

During a 7 year period in the 80s no less than 4 Deerfield kids drowned there.

Weekend was kind of a bust. We were well aware that it was the off season up there but the county was just shy of being boarded up and a
ghost town. Some of the views were gorgeous even though it was early in the year. Saw some of the touristy things without it being a
madhouse up there. Overall I think I can say I have been there and done that and scratch it off the list. If I were to go again I would
think that camping would actually be the most financially responsible way to go. We were disappointed with the resort based on how much
we spent for a two night stay.

We stayed on the Green Bay side and a majority of it was still frozen over. Kind of cool to be able to see the UP of Michigan
off to the north. The one thing that we did do was go to the Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay. What made it interesting is
that we had essentially a private tour from a guy who worked in the shipyards for 30 years and gave us a great explanation of
the industry over the years. He had family in the business since the early 1900s. Surprisingly shipbuilding is still a pretty big
industry up there which I didn't know.

the place is terrible any time of year. if the weather is nice, the crowds are unbearable. the water is always fucking freezing. Best bet is Not Licked Yet frozen custard in Fish Creek. cannot confirm this place is run by Spaulding.

I started reading this thread because I thought it was a new one.
I got 3/4 of the way through with page one when I saw it was from 2009.
Nice to see how much things have changed around here!!!

I didn't see any reason on starting a new thread since apparently no one goes up to Door County much. I used the
search function that now works great and found this thread right away. :eye:

I stayed in Fish Creek. It was pretty cool, and there was a lot to do. Hiked Peninsula State Park, stayed at the Whistling Swan. Highly recommend.

If you're from my hometown of Deerfield and grew up in the 80s the answer is unfortunately "drown".

We lost no less than 4 people in 3 separate drowning incidents in Door County in the 80s.
