My Bichon Frise just had puppies on February 6th.

I own both the male and female Bichon and they are purebred, however they are not AKC registered.

Because of that, I am selling the puppies for 250 each. There are two females and one male.

If the pups were AKC registered, they would go for 800 to 1000 each.

If you are interested, reply to this thread with a way to reach you and I will send some pics.

The pups will be available the first week of April.

If I had those for sale, wouldn't that make me a pimp?

Do you like listening to Coldplay with the Bichons in your lap or running around the front room?

Nicely played. You forgot while sipping Cabernet and listening to Rachmaninoff.

Hey I am not afraid to admit my wife wears the pants when it comes to dog selection. My vote was for Rottweiler, but when she said I had to clean up after it, I agreed to small dogs.

It's a registration service that guarantees dogs that you are buying are purebred - although I have my doubts about their geneaological checking.

However, of the agencies out there, they are easily the most respected. Stay away from the knock-off organizations as they register any dog without doing genealogical check.

Truly, all that any of these organizations truly do is allow dog breeders to jack the price of the dogs that they are selling. It's not real cheap to register and if you don't have the bitch and the sire registered, you can forget getting the puppies registered.

But since I have both the male and female at home, it's pretty easy to tell mine are purebred.

I'm thinking something like a labrador but I'm not too sure because I don't know much about dogs. I know I don't want a dog that's too big or too small.

Labs are usually big.

With small kids, and a shared disdain for 'little' dogs, a spaniel or beagle always works. With a Lab, you better get ready for a workout, those are outside/roaming dogs...that the "dad" gets to hang out with/clean up after

Nas, you can have our dog. He's a rottweiler/mastiff mix named Harvey. He's 10 months old and weighs almost 100 lbs. His head is huge and his brain is small. You're welcome to him.

Stop, I'll trade you my "Fire Island" special Llhasa Apso(sp.?) with about the same sized brain...but he IS friendly.

Spaulding, you must not have sat down with "your local insurance agent" when your homeowners' policy was being applied/paid for. I was shocked by the dog restrictions...twelve years ago

That's why I asked...I'd love to have a german shep but haven't looked into the laws in Il. If it's crazy I'll rethink it.

No, the last time my insurance agent stopped by my compound, I chased him away with my shotgun.

It's not the law, but the statistical tables(for dog breeds) that the insurers use. ...and no matter what "they" say, shepards are OK.

Laws on home owners ins coverage vary from state to state and company to company. Some won't give coverage or have more expensive coverage if you have a certain kind of dog. Shepards are great but I'd like to know about the liability.

I have some experience with a couple beagles in the past, and have a friend with one now, and without sounding like i am putting down an entire breed of dog, I'd be careful with them. They can be pretty noisy and jumpy and wild. Thats not to say they can't be trained to behave very well, i am sure there are some great beagles out there, but I am here to say that they are not naturally the easiest dog to dive in with.

I have 2 boxers, I guess I would consider them medium sized dogs. I have
a male that is 75 lbs and a female that is about 50. Real friendly and
trainable and you don't look too wimpy walking them around. They do
like their walks though so exercise is a big key to keeping them from
being crazy. We got ours from rescues.

The one thing I would say is that labs are great with kids. They can match their activity level and are very loyal and easy to train. Beagles are the same way, but they are smaller dogs.

Labs can be big. They can weigh anywhere from 55 to 80 pounds. If they do get to the heavy side, they can have hip problems as they age. I have a lab mix and she has consistently weighed 75lbs and the vet always asks us to have her lose weight. For 10 years we haven't been able to get her to lose weight. She doesn't get people food (unless the kids drop something and we can't get to it fast enough), she is walked almost daily, and eats only a couple of diet dog treats a day. No problems yet, but she is getting up there in age so we know it's coming.

Another thing to consider is shedding. Labs shed, but they have short hair so they are not as bad as say a golden retriever. Boxers IIRC do not shed and the ones that I have been around have been pretty cool.

Here is a pretty good link that will help you decide on a breed.
http://animal.discovery.com/breedselect ... elector.do

This site has tons of info on pets, pretty cool.

Yes, the Boxers have a short tight coat and only need occasional
brushing. They still shed but it just isn't as noticeable with
shorter hair. Very good with kids but can play kind of rough so
maybe not best with real little ones. Lots of good dogs out there
but if you do your research you will find one that works for you.

German Shepards are also big, but very loyal and good with kids.

My dog is 65 pounds, Husky Shepard mix. We adopted her from the Animal Welfare as a 3 month old puppy. She's the friendliest animal I've ever known. I believe her temperment is so good because we adopted her so young, for the most part, somebody was always home with her early on, and she had a ton of toys, so there was no reason for her to chew up shoes or anything that wasn't hers.

The bichons typically range from about 4 to 8 pounds in females and 6 to 12 pounds in males. They are actually herding dogs, which I found hard to believe.

They are extremely loyal and good with kids though.

But I think I have all three sold - the male for sure...

Nas,
We got our Beagle/golden(?) mix as a 6 week old puppy through petfinder.com & Aurora Rover Rescue. Fully grown he's about 45lb's, super friendly and loves kids.

It's a great site that allows you to search by breed/age/size & location.
