He was doing the exact same thing that all wrestlers do. He is no more brilliant than when Cindy Lauper got herself worked into the scripts against Captain Lou Albano.

You missed it. Kaufmann got people who didn't believe to believe. He had people all over the country talking about wrestling. In fact, a good argument could be made that his feud with Lawler helped lay the groundwork for the explosion that took place in the 1980's for wrestling.
