Nike used to make boots way better than Timberlands. Still rocking my almost 10 y/o Air Karsts that still look new despite the abuse they have been through.

No contest this year? At least last year crosscheck offered up some motivation

I definitely need to lose some lbs this year. Been trying to clear out the house of all of the leftover holiday stuff. Will probably be starting on some type of program on Monday.

A while back I dropped about 15 by just eating three times a day (in moderation) and totally giving up any and all kinds of pop/jiuce/booze and coffee.

if you can eliminate bread, pasta, sugar, and caffeine, you'll drop pounds daily.

That is going to be my plan mostly. The caffeine might be hard at times as I enjoy a good cup of coffee in the morning

Not sure on details, but I believe it jacks with you insulin levels getting in the way of normal metabolism. I'm sure the board doctors will explain in more intelligently.

yep...caffeine. most people don't drink black coffee.

When you are dieting, reducing caffeine can actually help you because caffeine constricts the blood vessels and acts much like a water pill, flushing excess water from the body. If you don't drink enough water already, this can actually force you to retain more water. So by cutting down your caffeine intake and upping your water intake, you can actually bring your body into a better water balance.

Reducing your caffeine intake can also improve your sleep patterns. Using caffeine to regularly make up for sleep deprivation is unhealthy and can lead to negative eating habits. While cutting all your caffeine may not be an attractive option, one way to help both your sleep patterns and your water retention is to switch to decaffeinated after 5 p.m. in the evening. While your body does not store caffeine in your system, it does take several hours to eliminate its stimulant effects.

Perfect timing...to go with one of my resolutions (exercise more), a few of us at work got together for a bet to see who works out more...30 minutes of exercise for one point...losers have to buy the winner breakfast at the end of the month...

I'm banking on Dance Central to take the crown for me...only can get 15 minutes at a time down right now but I'm hoping to improve that in a short while...lord knows I need to do something...

I've only had caffeine on that list this year and been following the Perricone diet. Did it last year and it has some pretty amazing results.

I've limited my diet to fish, vegies, fruit, yougurt . . . so far.

There is 0% chance I would be able to give up caffeine and still be a functioning and productive member of society. Kudos to anyone who could

Yeah, same here. I don't drink regular soda, but I am lost without coffee in the morning.

Your body is just going through withdrawl. Those problems would probably go away within a couple days.

I'm hoping to lose about 25 lbs - primarily using an elliptical in conjunction with South Beach.
My wife is using the WII Resort Fitness Plus (the balance board actually calculates and tracks your BMI). It will be interesting to see how effective it is (1.8 lbs in 3 days so far).

If you had to give up caffiene to lose weight, you can do it.

Or you can refuse and stay fat.

I did it last year as part of Perricone. The first three days were hard, but after the fourth day, I forgot that I used to drink coffee daily. Your body deals with the withdrawl fairly quickly.

If giving it up completely is the only way, I'll stay fat...

...but I think reducing the intake would certainly help.

There's a lot of carbs in potatoes, Lipid. Just cut those out.

lipid's potato recipe (sorta)
1. buy a 5lb bag of potatos.
2. peel.
3. add spices and stuff.
4. put in aluminum foil containers, place in cooler.
5. drive to illinois from iowa.
6. cook on grill...
7. eat 1/6 of prepared potatos.
8. load back into cooler.
9. drive from illinois to iowa.
10. forget about cooler full of 4.2lbs of potatos for 5 months in trunk of car.

:P

i gave up cigs and coffee cold turkey for about 3 weeks...then i had a smoke. i smoke once every few weeks when i'm around friends that do.
however, i'm pretty functional nowadays without coffee. it was weird for the first couple of days. bottled water worked for a while, but now i'm addicted to fruit punch G2.
