You might want to bring in more than just 1. The gates open at 5 usually, and you can get there as early as you want. Not that you need to get rip roarin' drunk, but you might want to enjoy more than just 2 glasses of wine thru the nite.

They're also doing Debussy's La mer, which I'm not so fond of compared to the unbridled brilliance of the Preludes, but hey. Had a shitty time with my shitty ex last year (and what a show to have spoiled, Liszt, Berlioz, and Chopin), but I don't want to miss this one. Got about two and a half months to procure a hot date. For classical music. Wish me well.

He lost the whole arm in WW1. A bunch of composers wrote music for him featuring only one arm. He was kind of a dick though and hated 90% of them. True story.

Cant help but think of the one armed violinist in "Hollywood knights". He was a dick too.

I'm sure we will bring a bottle or two. Don't know how early we will get there as I will have to pick up huffy from work, but I'm sure we will have time to enjoy some beverages

Get there as early as you can if you want prime lawn space. You don't want to show up late and be off in the distance, or by the food court.

Wouldn't the hoi polloi be the people on the lawn? And isn't "the hoi polloi" a redundancy?

Ravinia for a country show has the real potential for unbridaled hilarity. The shitkicker crowd and the wine & cheese crowd are not a good mix (as we all know). The company my gf works for has a couple of free Ravinia nights every year. Last year, one of the nights was for zombie Lynyrd Skynard (Freebird sucks). The stories she tells of the people watching that night are hilarious.

Like confederate flags and Nattie Light next to folks drinking bubbly with the mini table and candelabra.

Yeah, uuummmmm Im going on Glenn and Ronnie not being the shit kicking kind....but the candelabra and beer sounds good.

It's all shitkicking.

Try to sit on the east side of the park. The Metra train at the end of the night sits at the station there outside the west gate from about 915-930 til shows end, so if you are in the back or on the west part of the lawn you will end up straining to hear some of the music over the locomotive engine. Also try and sit about 15-20 feet behind one of the speakers. We were there last Saturday and did both of those above, had a really nice evening. Was able to hear everything pretty well. Heard the train off in the distance, but it was nothing like last year when we sat in the back probably less than 100 yards from the train tracks.

You don't have to rush to get out of there either. Leaving the parking lot was pretty easy the couple times we went, and after the performance ends you can sit there for a solid 15-20 min before they really start moving people out. Gives you time to finish your last drink and lets the crowd get a head start on leaving. Don't forget a couple of citronella candles to keep the bugs away.

Could there possibly be anything more painful than sitting through a Glen Campbell and Ronnie Milsap concert?

Ha ha ha! It is hard to argue with that logic.

I honestly thought that Glen Campbell was in the advanced stages of dementia. If he is, it is very cruel to put him out on stage, in front of dozens of his fans. Does he utilize cue cards with the lyrics on them?
