I know it is coming up quick but we are coming to Illinois the second week of July (7th to 14th...ish) and I would try to find a way to be there.

don't know if we can assemble a hoops event in that time (we need at least 4-5 weeks of hype and whatnot) but i'm pretty sure we can throw together a viewing party at an elk grove village stomping ground like...i don't know...random....um, real time sports?

After shockingly discovering that I was the oldest participant, I immediately knew that my Iceman George Gervin finger roll would be effective as none of you would have ever been alive to see it or know how to defend it. I only regret that I had no time to break out an underhanded set shot.

Seriously though, I was surprised to learn that I was the oldest one there. Wouldn't you think in a group like that someone would be over 68 years old? I mean Irish Boy has to be getting up there.

we've got softball coming up in July and I hope to do a bigger board golf outing in August...so Hoops 5 is likely a little bit away yet...

maybe they'll get the AC fixed by then...

I was meaning to throw you a shout out for allowing me to continue my streak of being the second oldest person in attendance (especially since I seem to have intimidated Darren enough that he doesn't show up anymore).

I showed up for one shot then disappeared again.

I did take some pictures, but I have to send them to Killer V for "Witness Protection Modification" before I can post them.

We protect the innocent around here.

I don't know about the innocence part - as far as I'm concerned, I'm just glad I didn't have any limbs in a sling in those pics from Saturday, although I probably look as crappy as I felt that afternoon :puker: :pukel: :weelchairbb:

When is the softball event? 16" or 12".

I'd prefer 12, but a beatup, soft 16" might be safer.

I don't think we confirmed a date, we were talking about July 25th, but thats the date of Doug's show. I'd be good any weekend except Jul 31-Aug 2, and Aug 7-9.

I'll bump the thread...thought it was the 25th as well. And while I play 12" fastpitch, for safety's sake we should go 16" gloves optional.

16 inch should never be gloves  I play major level 16 softball and this has been a very heated debate with Non-IL teams. For ASA rules when the National tournament comes around every Labor Day weekend, gloves are allowed because the ASA doesn't recognize 16" as a national sport so they lump it into their nice little 12 softball world where of course is played with gloves. That is why the true National championship is in Forest Park every 3rd week of July called the No Gloves 16" National Championship. That is where you will find the most competitive 16 inch softball in the world.

Ern, the gloves are for those on the board who will have never had a clincher put back through the box at them...

That isn't a big deal. Just keep the hands open and face the palms out and you should be fine. Even if it hits the body, it won't hurt that bad. Now a line drive hit into the outfield and is knuckling at you...that is a different story. A line drive to the pitcher won't have time to knuckle on you.

1st base could be a problem, especially a long throw from 3B...

Well any throw in the dirt always sucks. It takes a skill to keep the hands out and time the hop out of the dirt. Some the guys I played with had rockets for arms and the bases are so close that a turn from a double play ball were really hard on the hands. Especially in the first couple of innings because we used a brand new ball for each game. When we would throw the ball around the horn to start the game, I would slam the ball into the ground a few times to try and soften it up as much as possible.

The only person that intimidated me that day was my five year old daughter. She wanted to go to her picnic and get her trophy.

So tell me, if I was there, would I have been the oldest or would the good Doc have overtaken my thrown?
