Post subject:  BEER MACHINE

Thursday night I am watching 'the History of Beer" on the history channel and Friday I get home and Pre Santa left me a package! yes, a BEER MACHINE! as in BeerMachine.com (Thanks to a Demo guy I use)

So I assembled and brewed my first batch and we are in Fermentation process at this time.

Said 3-5 days, tonight would night 3. I shall update

Stop stealing our holidays.

By the way, I purchased one of those for a secret santa party a few years back. My brother in law ended up getting the gift and I was hoping to see how it turned out. The guy never even attempted to brew it up.

Well we are in Day 4, and I have givin it a bit of a taste, it's not bad, but is very flat because I have not carbonated or chilled it yet.

So tomorrow I shall chill and CO2 it, then we will see Wednesday.

I do wish I read much more of that website before I started.

I have done some brewing in the past and it is a very intense process, with alot of trial and error.

Without readng anything I do know that adding more sugar/glucose/honey is how you can increase the alcohol content. Which I will be doing in the next bacth.

Odds are it's going to taste like shit. My dad tried to brew beer when I was a kid. All the time and effort for what? You don't save that much money. It taste like shit.

My Dad screwed it up once and never tried it again. He went back to buying his Old Style at 3.99 for a 12 pack.

I suppose if you just do it for holidays or partys and you really put the effort in to make it great then it's fine. But some people buy a machine with the intention of it becoming their daily beers.

I have brewed beer on many occasions and it usually yields great results. And by the way, it is much cheaper than buying beer, especially if you like the higher quality microbrews, Belgian ales, etc.

But if you like Old Style, then you are probably better off drinking that since your taste buds and common sense are both already dead.

After reading up on home brewing a little bit I learned that a decent brew is a product of countless trials, thorough logging of both ingredients and the process, and incredible patience. Good luck, Big. If it ends up tasting/smelling like sewer, you're not the first person who failed.

This was my Dad Midget. It was Old Style for him when I was a kid. My dad was on a budget.

Several promotions later and with the kids all grown my Dad is now Heineken and Corona.

I'm talking about the money spent if you screw it up. I suppose if you know what you are doing it does save money for a quality beer.

Yeah, that's not really true. If you're careful with keeping everything clean, you'll be fine.

A buddy of mine was able to brew good batches.

A few yeara ago when there was a couple of Brew On Premises places I brewed my own a few times.

I made a Holiday batch, that was really good. I made 72 24 oz bottles. My own labels, etc.

I gave them out as gifts

Then some time in late January a guy in my office calls me in, his beer exploded, went all over. 2 Days later my uncle called me, his beer exploded too.

I had to call everyone I gave them to and warn them to open them now!

Beer Machine update. I tried to inject some Co2 and I think it broke the seal (yes, I pressure tested it first) so I put it in the fridge and letting it sit for the next 4 days

I've never tried brewing beer, and have no idea about the costs, but my friend's father in law had some that he had made over a year prior to my drinking it, and it was fucking delicious. I know this much: decent beer is pretty damn expensive at the liquor store. *Ponders brewing own beer*
