All Chicagoland Guitar Center stores are apparently offerring a "free string night" where you can bring your guitar (acoustic, electric, or bass) in and they will put a new set of strings on for free. I forget the brand (GHS maybe?) they are giving away, but I thought this was a pretty sweet deal.

its supposed to be all Chicagoland guitar centers this tuesday from 6-8pm

That's a pretty good deal...only wish I actually lived in the area...of course, my Strat has been sitting in it's case for over a year now, so on second thought, I guess it doesn't really matter.

You need to let her out. Guitars feel neglect too. They need to be loved!

It will scream from joy if you slide your hand up and down the fretboard.

I'd be burning $7 in gas to get some $4 strings...???
Besides, my Elixers are not offered. You guys ever use Elixers? I would not mind splitting up a box with a couple guys...

Yeah, dems the ones...
Man, do I love those strings. Rarely tarnish, cuts back on fret squeal, nice and smooth on the fingers, and it may just be me but they stay in tune longer than other strings.
I'll let you know when I pick up a box.

This is another reason that guitar hero is better than playing a guitar. No strings to replace.

yeah....but, I bet it's a bummer when your yellow button stops working.

plus, when you smash it against the floor those small plastic slivers are much more difficult to locate.

I've come close, but haven't smashed mine yet...I'll let you know how it turns out when I do  ...fuck "Green Grass and High Tides" and "Run for the Hills"...

Elixers...how long have those been around? I remember getting strings at a shop in Ames one time and the guy working the counter said "try these man...they got stuff coated on them"...how could I resist a sales pitch like that? I believe these might be said strings.

They're coated with teflon. Resists tarnishing, corrosion. Last a bit longer then regular steels, and in my personal opinion, sound the best although I'm not so sure you can really qualify that.
Run about $15-$17 a set. About 3x Dean Markleys.

Well,it wasn't the previously mentioned songs that did me in, but "Flirtin' With Disaster" by Molly Hatchett...I think I threw the Strat a total of five times, smashed it against the drumkit three times, and only managed to break off a small piece of plastic that connects the headstock to the neck...guitar still works fine, and a few tries later, I finally beat that fucking song...I think I'm done for a while...my hands feel like I've been beating off all night and I don't have the smile on my face to show it...
