Post subject:  A Church Invitation, 9 PM Saturday in St. Charles

I've gone back and forth with whether to post this, but some of you may want to come, so I'll put it up. Tonight at 10 PM my church is holding a christmas eve service, and I have been asked to give a short christmas message (I also play in the band at this church). It will be a short message (10 Min. or less) and it would be cool to have any of you looking for a Christmas service to come. The church is smaller sized and not itimidating, and I personally think the worship music is pretty decent. No dress code, no pews, no christmas sermon that will put you to sleep. PM me for the address of the church if you want to come. It is in St. Charles.

COF,
Congratulations for having the guts to get up and give a message like that.
Bigger congratulations for having the guts to post your invitation here, like you did.
Peace and Merry Christmas!

I thought it went well...but I'm not supposed to say that as the speaker... Band was awesome, great service. Short and sweet...kept the message to 7 minutes...

by the way, every Sunday I'm there in the band...St. Charles isn't a far hop for a few of you all...except for those in Iowa, obviously...

 Living Sacrifice would be a little edgy, even for this church...but the drummer and I dig their stuff. Lance Garvin is one of the best hardcore drummers ever...

What about Creed? I know they're not "technically" a Christian band but I like a lot of their stuff.

Lighthouse may be a good comparision...we've covered a few of their songs. We've also done a Train song or two. I'm not much of a pop guy, but I think we did pretty decent. The band I'm in there has a pretty good amount of talent, some guys who should be doing tours or studio musicianship. Our drummer is the best part of the band, he holds it all together. Does a mean Bonzo drumming impersonation...

If you want to be rocked, check out Living Sacrifice. Polyrhythms, awesome stuff. I'm a big fan of two of their albumns, The Hammering Process and Reborn. Concieved in Fire is their third albumn, haven't made up my mind on that one yet. They're hardcore, vocals are not for everyone but their drums/rhythm guitar interplay is excellent.

Lamb of God has countless church appropriate songs. You should try, City.

Omerta for example...

Broken the paradigm an example must be set.
Invoke the Siren's song and sign the death warrant.
This is what has been wrought for 30 pieces of silver.
The tongues of men and angels bought by a beloved betrayer.

Meshuggah and Lamb of God, I appreciate their musical abilities and they really are the best of the crop on the secular side, imo. I think I would be in for a little trouble playing either of those in church. I have snuck a LS tune or two in after the service was over, just to see if anyone would notice. I'm not a big Norma Jean guy, but I did see the other three bands when Sacrifice came to town and none of them let me down really. I come from a slightly older era when there was Living Sacrifice, Zao and a bunch of old hardcore 80's hair metal bands (Vengence Rising, Deliverance, Mortification, Torniquet and to a lesser extent, Galactic Cowboys and Bride) I'm still getting up to speed on the "newer" offerings...

Re-opening the invitation for this Saturday, at 9 PM in St. Charles. If you would like to come, just shoot me a PM. Young church, on the small side. Good music, short message (although I'm not sure I'm giving it this year). Come one, come all.

Give the congregation your NBA thoughts. I also like to use jokes when I make a presentation.

Thanks for the invite, COF. I think that's very cool of you. I will make an effort to stop by next year if this is still going on...

Cool. That gives you 369 days or so to cancel.
