so, silly me, I thought I'd call today to check up on the gym and make sure everything was on the up and up. Come to find out that from 2-4, we'll only have half the gym (two hoops but a much smaller court, obviously). Nobody apparently intended to call me about this. I'm trying to find a gym in that area and perhaps get a reservation, but who knows. Talk to me, fellow Hoopees...do we keep it at Hiawatha for a reduced cost (assuming) or should we move it elsewhere? I'm calling in to a gym on Irving Park Road (Merimac) and Shabbona Gym, which is on Addison...

I say move it if possible. Shabbona should be available - nobody up there but old people and Poles.

Paulie, I know you're probably joking, but I "secured" the gym almost a month ago. I have called back every week to check on money, time, etc. and have been assured every time that we were on the schedule and would get the whole gym. Today I call and things have changed and "have been scheduled that way for 3 months." No satisfaction at at all...

Other CPD gyms reasonably close would be

Oriole, Norwood, Shabbona, Sayre (which would be close to the Metra), Merrimac andBrooks (probably the furthest away)
I'd try Shabbona and Merrimac first.

Screw that. Call Hiawatha and tell them that they either give us the full gym or they need to find us a full gym to use.

You apparently have never dealt with a City of Chicago employee.

Did you find out who booked the other half?

It could be for Luvabulls try-outs or something of that nature....

But I'd assume it's a 7 year old's birthday party.

Anything closer to the expressway is fine with me. Just don't send me somewhere where there's a good chance I'll get lost.

It's park district basketball...they say it was scheduled 3 months in advance...THEN WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME EVERY TIME I CALLED?! I CALLED EVERY WEEK TO DOUBLE CHECK!!

why, you don't like the bums over there? I remember as a kid i was told not to go there because of all the bums and transiants that hung out and slept in the park.
What about sayre? don't they have a court?

Post subject:  Re: *ALERT* Hoops 2 Location problem

see, I know very little about the City. I knew Hiawatha because my grandparents live the next 2 blocks over. So I'm kinda grasping for straws here. Shabbona remains the best posibility. I can't raise anyone at Oriole yet.

Look at it this way - worst case, we have a gym for the 3 hours. Let's see if we can get lucky (well, KC will but that's another story for another day)

CoF - contact me and let me tell you some other ideas.

Post subject:  Re: *ALERT* Hoops 2 Location problem

this is the resolution. We are playing in Hiawatha Gym from 1PM-4/5PM for free. That's the good news. The bad news is from 2PM-4PM, we will be going half court, which has two hoops but the court is obviously smaller. This is the best resolution I can come up with at this point. Crisis averted, I will change the heading of this thread and all Hoops 2 commentary can resume in the 1-26 thread. Sorry for the inconviences, fellas. Lesson learned...never trust the Chicago Park District.
