As promised, a bowling outing for the CSFMB. All are invited. PM campaign starts in the next couple days, but I'm not sure how much effort I'll put into this one as I'm kinda busy. There is a poll above with dates and I do need suggestions for a central bowling location. I am currently scouting a few but am open to any ideas. Hope to see the usual basketball crowd as well as some of you that are less "athletically inclined." Ideally, we'll rent an alley, but we'll see how many responses we get. Please vote ASAP so I can get a date together.

Let's talk about where first?

I would throw out Fireside Bowl at 2648 W. Fullerton.

I would even be willing to endorse and promote a league atmosphere,

I am in.

Feb 28th is the Afternoon Saloon movie madness thingamajobber, so we might not want to do it that day, or if that is the day we decide upon, do 10pin or something up near Wrigleyville.

If we're going to do it elsewhere, we'll need to call ahead and possibly reserve lanes, or get to whatever alley we choose pretty early because Saturday nights get busy, and there are leagues at least 6 days a week. I doubt most lanes have open bowling until after 9pm on Saturdays

I'd try harder to get to a bowling event than a basketball event but all those dates are bad for me, but I'm nothing special and an out-of-towner on top of that.

your thought counts...what date would work for you? I'm still in the begining stage of putting this together, plus we may do another bowling event on this one's heels if the first is successful...

Let's let this be the working locale for right now. I don't know Chicago well, so I'll be google mapping this location in a few minutes.

This is hardly a center spot. Its a mile south of wrigley what about the Southwest suburbanites?

habits, hard, death.
Someone should tell that to Jurko too...He's said it a few times.
I plan on going, yes.

Fireside Bowl, really? I haven't been there in 12 years...and it was a punk show.

I didn't know Fireside still had actual bowling.

Bryan:

I am already coming from 1hr & 1/2 away to the west. Going south would add more time. Anything we do must be at least north of 88 at worst...

Fireside is not a central location, however.

Frank, I don't know the city real well. Name some good alleys with "central" locations...

There has to be one in Rosemont or Elk Grove Village...

Post subject:  Re: CSFMB Bowling Outing

either of those locales are a little better for me. But is that central for everybody else?

I'll do some final research.

Post subject:  Re: CSFMB Bowling Outing

It seems as thought the most "centrally" located alley would be in a suburb along 294, north of 88/290, but not much further north than say Ohare.

I know many decent lanes on the southside and south burbs, not much as far as the city, west, or north burbs go.

Elmhurst, North Lake, Bensenville, Franklin Park? I'll try to find one near the Hoops 1+2 Locale...

That's what I thought - they actually bowl at Fireside? I was there @ 15 years ago to see NUFAN.

Bowling Green in West Chicago?

It is located on IL-38, just west of IL-59, and its only a couple miles north of I-88.

I could definitely set something up there.

I'm not opposed to driving, but I don't want to bowl in Iowa either, Chus :P

Post subject:  Re: CSFMB Bowling Outing

that's actually good for me Chus, but I live in Sycamore...I think it would have to be a little closer to the city. I'm looking at Irving Bowl right now, which is on Irving Park Rd...

I think I remember bowling there in a tournament as a yute..

Does anybody know how to keep score in the event we don't have automatic scorers?
I do, actually

Post subject:  Re: CSFMB Bowling Outing

I know that is a long ride for some people, but regardless of location, many will have significant windshield time.

I have bowled at Bowling Green for a long time, and could definitely set something up. I also have a ton of free game coupons, that I could hand out. Any time you bowl a game 50 pins over average in league play, you get a free game coupon. I never use them, because when I bowl at a time other than my league, I get a rate of $2 per game, because I am a league member. I usually give the free games to my wife or brother.

I took a bowling class in college...so kinda...

I'm calling Irving Bowl today to determine costs.

Irving Park info:
5708 W Irving Park Rd
Chicago, IL 60634...

$3.50/per person per game
$2.00/shoe rental

Open 10-1 on Saturdays. Sounds like we could reserve the place for no extra cost. Makes no business sense to me, but I asked 3 different ways and she kept saying it would be no extra cost...
