Hey guys, I'm looking for a laptop on the cheap, no more than 150. I'm looking at one that Has Windows XP, MS Office 2007, CD DVD RW, and internal wireless card. You tech geeks know what I mean...if you know anyone who is selling one, or you have one to sell, PM me. |

Check at some computer repair shops. They may have some refurbed ones on the cheap. |

We got computer shop around here that carries some refurbed ones pretty cheap, or you go in and tell they what you are looking for they might have some thoughts on your best direction. |

Bump...Found one very cheap...I'm very pleased....I don't think I left the bed at all today except to piss and eat....get ready for me to be on the live chat all day Sunday. |

Are you still looking Spmack? I've got an old laptop I used in school to get out my frat house to actually do some work. It's not the fastest thing in the world, but was serviceable to surf the net and work on papers etc. Let me know and I can check the specs when I get home tonight |

Kind of related laptop question... I have a Compaq Evo..yeah I know, I just use it to surf the web at home, basically. I got it on the cheap about a year ago and everything was fine but now having some power supply issues. I hardly ever run it on just battery power, if it matters. But just recently I was doing something and the computer just restart on its own out of nowhere...I noticed that there was an odd noise emanating from near the power supply. I'd wiggle the cord and the amber 'batter light' would come on, go off, come on, etc. It continued to work for awhile...but then yesterday I got the power cord to where the charge light was continuously on and let it charge while I was at work. When I came it home it did power on but the battery didn't take any charge, when unplugged it was on critical. I have a spare cord so I tried that and same thing. So I'm wondering if maybe it's something as simple as the battery just failed? But then why couldn't I just run it on AC power? For awhile anyhow, I don't really care if I have to have it plugged in everytime but that apparently isn't working. And doing just some brief searching this morning on the net a replacement battery looks to be around 50$...which is fine, if I knew that were the problem. I don't want to buy it and have it not solve the issue, and I'm also aware the black friday is coming up, if there were a really good deal somewhere on a new one for 200-400 I would probably strongly consider it. |

Bagels - first thought is that you have a bad power supply. I'd go on ebay and you can find a cheap one for about 15 bucks shipped to try it out. If that doesn't work, Compaq's are notorious for having bad connections where the power supply goes in because that prong is soldered down to the motherboard. Once they go, you are better off buying a new laptop because the fix will run you 200+ and it's not simple to do yourself. I went through two compaqs like this (one was in warranty still and was replaced, the second went months after the warranty expired). The other option would be to look into a dock and use that to power it up. |
