this thread will serve as an alternative to the main bowling thread, which is one page and mainly in place to communicate the info on Saturday's event. This thread is for running commentary, after party planning, random insults and critiques of my bowling technique.

Nice. Kudos to her. My Busia is 85 and still kicking ass. I only recently found out that Busia is the Americanized version of Grandma, and that Babsha (sp?) is the more apt term. Which do you use?

I am curious what you chose to do for the event. You had the request for suggestions thread a while back. I will need to do something sooner than later for the folks. Don't think mine will make it to 90.

my best ideas were rejected

-A Bobby Vinton impersonator would have brought down the house
-the "Which Is Older: Grandma or ?" gameshow would have killed
-I agree the old man stripper might not have worked, but I would have been laughing in the corner

I can't take credit for the zinger. My father in law (moment of silence) used that one all the time - it's kinda stuck.

Thank god you created this thread.

20 responses so far, and I believe only 1 was a genuine post regarding the activities on Saturday.

The stress from that event just makes it seem like a year ago.

Hey City, other than SHARK, what sort of luminaries can we expect this weekend?

I probably won't make it. My husband's grandma passed away yesterday and I think the services are going to be Saturday. In another odd twist of fate the family is talking about going to White Eagle for dinner.

We have a Busia.

Busia, she gone :(

Sorry to hear Spaulding...best wishes to you and yours in this rough time.

Busia is still around.

Thanks, it's alright. She was fighting cancer the last 2 years and the past month has been ugly. She was a nice lady we'll miss her but we were prepared for it. Death is a part of life.

Yeah, I hear that. Lost my grandma about 6 weeks ago. And even though she had some health issues and was in a home, it was still fairly sudden for an 88 year old woman.

Sounds like Mr Spaulding's gram is in a better place now.

Hey City, other than SHARK, what sort of luminaries can we expect this weekend?

1. Matty Batty (and perhaps other B&B producers, don't know yet)
2. Fast Freddy Huebner
3. Silvy (99%)
4. Mac 50/50 (I'm calling in today)
5. A potential surprise guest I won't name yet.

To answer a few other questions:
a)There is no flat rate for bowling. It will be $3/game, $3 shoe rental. Expect to bowl a min. of 4 games if you are in the tournament. We will bowl one set, free form and then pick random teams to compete in a tournament with prizes. Both Bigfan and FredHuebner are bringing prizes of differing values, and I've heard T-Bone is also potentially bringing prizes. Teams will consist of either 3 or 4 players depending on number of participants.
b)Shoe rental is $3.
c)I hope to start the tourney by 12 Noon. Bigfan and I will put our heads together on how matchups will go, consolation, etc.
d)Food is available at the alley.
e)The Hoffy's are out, further scuttling any organized plans for an after-party, although I expect an unorganized one will take place just like last time.
f)I am 99.9% certain this alley takes credit cards, one bonus over Irving Park Bowling Lanes. I will miss the Big Lebowski-style decor though.
g)The main point of this event is to get everyone to meet each other, so again, the tournament pairings will be random, selected out of a hat most likely. If you do not want to participate in the tourney, that is quite ok. There are plenty of extra lanes. If you do not want to bowl, that is also quite ok.
h)If you do not want your picture showing up on the board, talk to me at the event and I will create a list. Forget avoiding pictures, you'll end up in them whether you like it or not. By the same token, don't post pictures until you talk or PM me. We'll have no Hoops II debacle here.
