Serious: Get rid of the car. You're in a situation where the various VW techs already don't believe you/cannot replicate the problem, so who knows how much it will cost to "fix", if they fix it in the first place.

Not serious: This is all very ironic.

We ALL know that all of the hot hatches threads are a cry for help. Seriously Serious.

Well, I have video of myself replicating it; this is something I didn't have last time I brought it in or spoke with them over the phone. Video proof is sort of indisputable. And the cost would be free as soon as they admit to the issue, as it would be a warranty repair paid for by VWoA. It doesn't qualify for a lemon by law yet either, but eventually it could.

But I thought you were already told by a tech that the video wouldn't do you any good unless they could replicate it themselves? Indisputable video or not, I still see the point the VW techs are making: if they can't see the symptoms, then they cannot diagnose the problem.

I guess I just view this as a cost/benefit scenario, with the costs likely outweighing the potential payoff.

Plus, it isn't really something to toy around with and potentially get killed in an intersection.

In unrelated auto advice news, don't buy a car you can't afford to fix. Someone I work with bought a BMW off her brother used that was pretty cheap and then the check engine light came on and it's going to cost more to fix than what she paid for it.

I would have liked to have been able to get it fixed two months ago, with you guys none the wiser, but VW wants to play a little hardball. The car is amazing, I love it...but this issue (which isn't a model wide problem, just a few people here and there) needs to be fixed.

People who has issues with MK5 GTI's a few years ago eventually took it to a news source, which publicized it and pressured VW to fix it, which they eventually did.

That might have to happen for this one.

Just wait until the power windows go and on and on.

I sincerely hope you don't die in a fire because of this issue. I'd take Ugie's advice and get a new automobile.

This was just a low level tech / employee who told me that - and the video I had asked them to view at the time was a video of it happening to someone else in a Golf (a VW, but not even my same car) I then asked the guy in a hypothetical sense, 'what if I had the video?'

Now I actually have a video, and I will talk to a service manager. I will talk to VW of America directly. Someone will watch this video. At that point, they need to be a little more serious in their attempt to replicate it on my vehicle.

Who knows, maybe the video will help. I doubt that it will, but give it a shot.

I just don't know what the techs will be able to tell you, especially since neither you nor them can replicate the scenario on demand. More often that not they attribute this sort of thing to user error (unless, of course, it is a known issue).

It's "Serious plea for help". Not plead.

I'm getting more and more able to replicate it on demand. I now know most, if not all, of the conditions necessary for it to happen...MFD shows third gear...braking / coasting...then go to accelerate while MFD still shows 3rd. The reason I was able to take the video on that street is it is right near my apartment complex, and it has happened to me 3-4 times on that road alone...because its right after a turn I take in third gear normally...so when I accelerate out of the turn...some of the times it happens.

.......

Muhfucka, then go pick up that jerk of a VW tech and drive his ass around that curve! Screw this "let's get the world to view my video on YouTube" revolution.

Go get your car fixed, dammit. Go. Right now.

Shit.

Ugie...I've made that turn at least once a day every single day I've lived at that apartment...I moved in the third week of May. Its the third week of October. 150 days...4 occurrences. Maybe 12-14 times total in 3,000 miles. I'm not quite to the point where I can purposely make it happen...so far...that video night was the first time I've wanted to make it happen and it did.

One of these times its going to happen when I really, really don't want it to...and that won't be good.

Look man, here's what you've told me:

- You know what gear the car needs to be in for it to occur

- You have a pretty good idea of the conditions needed for it to occur

- You have been able to replicate it AND video tape it at least once

And most importantly:

- You are concerned that it will occur and potentially kill your ass.

Here's what I would do if I were you. I would drive to the dealer one more time. I would speak to whatever service manager, dealership owner... whoever. I would tell them everything you just stated on this board, and let them know that you will file a major lawsuit against them if you ever get into an accident, because they won't be able to prove the car's transmission didn't cause the wreck.

If they still refuse to help you, then sell the car and get a different vehicle. Cut your losses.

I'm sure one of the board lawyers would be willing to take this case pro bono.

looks like a pretty damn serious issue.

I would think that the first issue would be: Did he void his warranty but puttin' all those after-market fixins on that little deathcab that he was bragging about.

That's a very good question...
