I took a half day of work to golf with my old man, but he had something come up at his job and can't get the day off. So...anybody want to hit the links for a tee time between like 1:15 and 1:30?

In my profession I don't have the luxury of having time off to golf.

Sorry.

The only thing worse than explaining your own jokes is someone else explaining them for you and then thinking they made the joke. :|

I'd like to but

a) I have to work

and

II) I've never golfed a day in my life.

Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid 50s and lows in the upper 30s. Chance of rain: 0%

That's not real warm, but its not terrible either.

I would love to see a Shakes and Frank play day on the course, who would be the first to break a club over the other ones head?

Yeah, but which one would actually be injured by it first?

that's a little too chilly for me. I draw the lines at 60s. Hopefully it will warm up again next week, I'm not ready for golf season to be over. I was just starting to play well :(

I'm sure Frank and I would get along just fine on the golf course. I've yet to play with someone I didn't get along with and I go out as a single quite a bit so I'm always getting paired up with strangers. Can't remember ever having a bad experience with that. Last week was a little weird though, got paired up with a couple guys also named Mike, really nice guys who blazed up and were in town for the Ryder Cup so we got along great, but really, do you really need to mark every 5 inch putt? They weren't even playing for money.

And you wanted to know if there was an opening in the group a few weeks ago? That day was 50 with a 25 mph wind and that is being conservative.

Golf etiquette is something that is so misunderstood it's funny, especially with weekend hackers. It gets even worse when strangers are paired together. I'm not talking about "being quiet in someone's backswing" or "repairing your ballmarks"; instead, I'm referring to things that directly impact pace of play.

In most weekend situations, Ready Golf should be the assumed policy, IMO. Gimmies should also be gratuitous in most situations. No need to be nervous around other golfers you don't know. Nobody cares if you missed a 2-footer or not. Just pick the damn ball up and move on to the next hole. People are waiting.

Even Ugie doesn't want to golf on Friday

I liked how Fox Run had clocks out there to let you know where you stood, and the rangers were cool but seemed poised to move people along. That's how it should be. It seems a lot of rangers fail to move groups along as well, but don't think twice about coming up to you bitching if you have a cart tire barely touching the grass near the green.
"Sorry, I turned the wheel slightly and ended up with a tire on the grass. Now, the group in front of us is 2 holes behind where the should be, how about telling them to pickup and go to the next tee ya jagoff?"

Trust me; if I didn't have meetings all day Friday, I would be more than happy to join you.

Rangers at most public courses are a complete waste of overhead. More often than not they are recently-retired old men who need to fill the gap of what Social Security isn't providing and would much rather be playing golf than working. However, some of the guys are a little more punitive than others.

Pace of play is a huge problem on most public courses, which is why many have implemented the "stopwatch" mentality like we saw at Fox Bend. I don't mind it; I think it keeps things moving along by simply being a visual reminder. But I think the biggest help for pace of play would be to mandate teeboxes by handicap.

For a minimal cost, anyone can register for a CDGA handicap index. Golfers should be required to carry one. Fisherman and hunters are required to carry licenses, so why not require golfers to register for a handicap index? When booking a tee time, players would then be required to show their handicap card at the Pro Shop. Players are then asked to play from a specific set of tees based on their index. Pace of play is immediately improved.

This is very true. At least 2/3 of the guys out there on the weekends have no business playing from the back tees.

Plus, this stupid game is hard enough. If I get to start off an extra 30 yards closer to the pin with no penalty, I'll take it. I need all the damn help I can get

You're comparing hunting with golf. I think it's hilarious. Carry on.

The easiest way to speed up the game is to have players charged per minute on the course. Don't let people pay a flat rate for a round. Problem solved.

That rule would start knife fights
