Of course I'm talking about the 3rd biggest international games in existence right behind the olympics and the world university games, the jewish olympics, otherwise known as the Maccabei Games.

This coming summer they've added a 40 and over non check division for ice hockey and I've been asked to play on the team. Games are going to be in Israel in July. Hopefully that whole jews vs arabs thing will be resolved by then.

Not sure I'm gonna go since you need to pay about $8000 to go (that includes everything). But, we're having a weekend of practices and games in Philadelphia in March which I'm definitely going to which by itself will be a lot of fun. Never thought at my age I'd get the chance to do something like this.

And even though its the over 40 jew olympics, getting to wear a USA jersey and represent your country while taking on the red, white and black of team Canada gives me chills just typing it. Canada is taking this quite seriously, Mike Keenan is running the program and coaching the Open division team. I think the head coach at Yale is coaching our open division team.

So if you're missing the NHL and summer rolls around just turn to ESPN-JOO and check out yours truly in the red, white and blue.

Shakes, you should see if you could get some sponsorship to cover the $8G.

I think we should have a CSFMB fundraiser for the man (seriously).

Instead of a dunk tank we could have a padless shakes in goal taking on slapshots for $50.

The Jews didn't always play "no check". They nailed Jesus to the boards.

My question is what are the other events at the Jew Olympics? Accounting? Bargain shopping? Chopped: Seder edition?

Don't know all of them, but I heard they had to start all the track and field races last week so they had time to finish them before the closing ceremonies in late July.

Beard off, balancing a book with a yarmulke on your head, fastest to light all candles of the menorah, marathon around Skokie, various questions from the LSATs, pin the tail on Yasser Arafat...

UPDATE: Went out to Philly a couple weeks ago for training camp/tryouts. It was really cool. We had 4 lines and 4 sets of d and 2 goalies. Everyone was cool, we even have a rabbi on the team. We skated friday, saturday morning, had a game vs a bunch of 20 year olds saturday night and then one final skate Sunday. Lots of skating for a bunch of 40 year olds and even a handful of 50 year olds.

I wasn't at the original tryout so they started me on the 3rd line. By the second practice I was on line #2 and second PP unit. Had a guy on my line who played D1 for Notre Dame and me and him clicked on the ice really well. By the end of the weekedn we were the top producing line and were elevated to PP unit #1.

It was really cool having real practices for the first time in 25 years. Got yelled at by the coach the first night for messing up the forcheck. We worked on faceoff plays, breakouts, PP schemes and pretty much everything you can get done in a short weekend.

Worked out a deal with the administration so it looks like I'm going to go to Israel for the actual games in July. SHould be cool, we start out with 3 days in Jerusalem for the opening ceremonies and other activities. Then we spend a week up in the northern most part of Israel where the only ice rink is for the games. Its literally 100 feet from the Lebanon border and in the middle of nowhere. That part sucks, I wish it was in a cool city.

After the games we get 3-4 days on the beach in Tel Aviv which is supposed to be really nice.

Another really cool thing...on April 16 I fly back to Philly, attend the Flyers vs Rangers game and then immediately after the game we take the ice and play a game where the Hawks won the Stanley Cup. As someone who was at that game in 2010 its gonna be really cool to go back there, definitely wearing my Kaner jersey.

The only downside is it looks like were gonna get killed by Canada. They take this hockey shit really seriously apparently. Mike Keenan is coaching the open division team for starters, our coach is a college coach. As for the over 40 team were coached by the guy who runs the Skokie rink and coaches high school Canada is being coached by some guy named Jaques Demers, winner of a Stanley Cup and two time NHL coach of the year! Apparently there are lots of jews in Montreal and I'm sure they are all lining up to play for a legend like Demers. Could get ugly for us.

Plus Mike Keenan will literally eat their souls if they lose. Sounds really awesome though congrats and keep your head down from stray rockets in Tel Aviv.
