Ok, so most of us are overweight, or just not in good shape....

Since we have a drinky thread, and a spanky thread (no not the NIU Huskie lame), I figure that those of use who are trying to get in shape or maintain their shapes should post here. Maybe we can keep each other from falling off of the wagon.

The only board member that I know of that's really in shape is WZ. He's small, but don't be surprised - he's got a bit of a gun show. And Spanky is a gym teacher I believe, so he has to be in shape somewhat?

I started my get in shape campaign last month.....my goal is to get to 205 by the end of the month, and as low as 195 by Memorial Day. Right now I am at 218, about 7 down from 225 in December.

I like to do the treadmill for 30-45 minutes, my short term goal is to do 3 miles in 30 minutes...yesterday I was able to do about 2.6 miles in 33 minutes, so I still have a ways to go.

I'm doing cardio and some light weight lifting 2-3 times a week, and then 1 day on the weekend I'm focusing on heavier weight lifting.

So this is the official 2011 Get it Shape thread.....let's get it done people!

Won't be as fun as Drinky thread, but very useful. Will this mostly be an update of our successes or failures?

I'm definitely still fat, unfortunately. Working on eating much less, which has already yielded big results. As lame as counting calories is, it works. Toughest thing for me so far is finding time to get to the gym.

I do recommend RunKeeper (iPhone). Great app that is normally $10 or so, but is free until the end of the month I think.

Also use "MyFitnessPal" to track my diet, weight, etc. FREE nation.

Definitely a good idea. About time.

I started my "Commitment to averageness" right after Christmas and am down 6 pounds so far. Still more to go.

So...I'm not in shape, eh?

I don't need to lose weight but, I started going back a couple of weeks ago. Cardio program on the elliptical for 30 minutes. 5 minute cool down...
and then single sets of light weight on machines, with resistance-fatigue the last couple of reps. it's not a mass building program. I just got a yoga vid from my neighbor that is ab-focussed. looking forward to trying that out.

I do cardio 5-6 times a week. Not much in terms of muscle building or weight loss type things, though.

Had been hitting the gym pretty regularly then got sick a week or two before Christmas and kind of coasted through the holidays. Now not looking forward to getting back with all of the resolutioners taking up all of the machines and what have you so I am planning on a fresh start at the gym starting next week. I like to switch between the elliptical or the treadmill for 20-30 mins then do some light weights and do a circut on the machines. I don't really have a weight loss number but just want to get in better overall shape. My goal is to be going to the gym 4 days a week but I usually end up in the 2-3 day a week range.

fitday.com for tracking calories, exercise, foods and drink... goals and monitoring. Last time I used it I dropped close to 100 lbs. Since then I got married and put 35-40 back but hell, I have starvation insurance. Doug be dead in a week if he don't eat due to apocalypse or what not. I'm still L-I-V-I-N.

Except that your body eats its own muscle first when you are starving.

I need to either lose weight to fit my frame ( I am similar in height to W_Z) or at least firm up my gut. I've started doing more cardio on the treadmill/exercise bike a couple times a week. Also dug out the Perfect Pushups that I purchased a couple years ago.

Yeah, I know those are pretty lame, har har har. But they work.

Good thread!

This winter has been a disaster. I pretty much lost control and gained about 20lbs.
Since the end of last month I've been eating smaller portions and more fruits and veggies. Drinking lots of water too.

Started cracking the bag at work with some kickboxing but what I really wanna do is start running. Its probably my worst workout activity even when I was in shape. I have to work on that.
Wanna get some brazilian jiu jitsu in too. That's probably been my most affective workout. Burned a lot of fat, got stronger, flexible and cardio. I rank it up there with swimming

Used to weigh 250 back before Rickey Henderson changed my life in 1993. Got down to 180 by spring of 1994. Kept it there for about 6 years till i started having back problems and had to stop playing basketball. Used to play basketball 5-6 days a week for a couple hours a day. Switched to just playing hockey, but with my back problems (6 back surgeries) I can only do so much exercising. Add that to just getting older and the weight has been creeping back on for the past decade. Had it steady around 200 a few years ago but lately its climbed up into the 220s. Was as high as 225 after I got back from my cruise a few weeks ago.

Been on a diet ever since, but the holidays made that tough. Playing hockey 3-4x a week is my only exercise. I have an elliptical at home, but I'm usually so sore from playing hockey that on my days off I need to rest so I don't use it very often if at all. Got down to 219 before NYE, haven't been on the scale since. Had a bad weekend for eating, but have been dieting hard all week. Lunches consist of chicken or turkey chile and a salad or veggies and dinner has consisted of a turkey sandwich and veggies. Snack at night has been an apple. Also trying to cut out soda, have been drinking only water all week. Played hockey last night and have hockey thursday, friday and saturday so hoping to be down in the teens when I go back on the scale sunday or monday.

The goal is to be in the 190s when its all said and done. I've given up on the dream of being in the 180s with my terrible metabolism and advancing age. Even when i was younger and was able to keep it in the 180s that was only because I was working out 6 days a week.

Also need to start forcing myself to eat some sort of breakfast since everyone says that is important for weight loss. Gonna try to eat a banana every morning on my way to work.

A family member told me I'm not fat, it's just that my torso is small so everything gets scrunched down to make me look fatter. Some of you have met me. Do I really look like a chubby hobbit? I think I would have rather been fat.
