My 10 year water heaters has started leaking from the base. Anyone with an opinion on a replacement brand?

I called around a few plumbers on angies list and I have a couple of quotes for them intstalled $1780 for a bradford white and about $1000 for a Rheem.

Bradfords appear to be higher quality, but that much better?

Thank you for not calling it a hot water heater.

Wayyyyyy to high.

AO Smith.

You can get a unit and have it installed ll at home depot for like 700.00 bucks. If you need a guy for installation, my best friend is the manufacturing rep for AO Smith. He could recommend someone.

I live out in Gilberts, just west of Elgin. PM any recommendations if you have them. Plumbing is something I know nothing about and am forced to bend over and take it for the most part.

40 Gallon tank should run your around $400-$450. Installation should take about an hour or so...
$700 total is pretty reasonable.

oh...well, I guess $1k-1.2K makes sense then.

They last about 10-15 years, so if you think you'll be in the house for longer than that buy the more expensive unit. If not, then buy the cheaper one.

I install bradford white units.
You have a few things to think about. Newer atmospheric water heaters run over 610 degree on the flue pipe and most peoples b is rated for 550. Venting into clay chimney is fune but if you're venting into b pipe it could exceed the rating of the pipe.
Induced draft heaters are more expensive but are much safer. Don't let someone tell you they're more efficient. Its horse hockey.
If you go the self install route, get a bladder style pressure expansion tank to go with it.
I'd also recommend getting a tub or pan or whatever they're called to sit the tank in. They're about 3-4 inches deep, and have an outlet line which ypu can either run pvc or vinyl tubing from to your floor drain. This will prevent water all over the gott durned place.
I also recommend a float switch for this "pan" that goes to an alarm (cheap) or better yet, I've been thinking of sweating in a Taco zone valve in the cold inlet side so if the 24v switch trips when the water leaks it closes the pipe off so it won't keep on runnin and leakin and all that. Zine valve and switch about 300 I guess.

Very rarely do we sell 75 gallon water heaters, you could save a lot of money by moving down to a 50 if your situation warrants it...

That's a good point...
Turd, do you have a lot of people living in the house or a whirlpool or something?

Don't go with Herras or abrahamsons. Those are both pretty local for you out of Elburn and Lilly Lake. They will bend you over for the tune of 2-300 per hour I would guess by now.

HWT or HWH is how a 'professional" would see such an item on a blueprint from a "professional" architect.

I had to quote someone a 75 gallon rheem 6 year tank today and came up with $1497, so if you can get a licensed guy to do it for a $1000, then I think you got yourself a good deal...

I just had a tank put in about 2 years ago. I thought it was closer to 800 bucks.
