I will continue to say NASCAR holds itself back with the schedule of "Race A, then Rac B in the Min truck version on the outter lap" and I know my criticism pisses off the NACARians like Dr Ken,

But for example, Joliet Speedway? They have 1 race a year? and it looks like it is Sept 14, Sunday????? I am pretty sure a certain team from a certain city plays on Sundays....(or Mondays now, or say, or Thursday> or Sunda night)...

Regardless, am I wrong on the NASCAR event at Joliet as I have never been to a NASCAR event, sounds like it would be a solid event.

Going to live racing event isn't really comparable to stick and ball sports. Kinda more like prepping for a concert or festival. To have the best experience, you need to show up 1-3 days before the event. Showing up day of race would be like driving to a bears noon home game and leaving your place at 11am.

To do this right, an RV is going to have to be rented.

1. is Sept 14 correct?

2. This sheds light on many aspects of the "SPORT". As I have heard many say it is a mutiple day event, so is it an event? Drinking, eating, or...a race?

Easy way to explain it is that is like a Dead or Buffet concert.

Yes. Show up Saturday night or early Sunday morning. Just so you can party or tailgate and be on your own time to enjoy the experience.

Yes the 14th, green flag at 1pm. Hollywood or Harrahs Casino hotel is just down the street if you don't want to slum it at the track Saturday night.

I would say it's more like a big college football game. LOTS of tailgating ahead of time. Pretty elaborate tailgating/grilling set ups.
You can bring you own cooler full of beverages into the track - in fact they encourage it. You don't need to go for the whole weekend, that's for the hardcore peeps. If you like food, beer, crowds - then you'd like it. Nobody realizes how loud and fast it is until they see it in person.

Problem is, the Joliet track is one of the worst on the circuit (boring, flat, too wide) - and like BF said, they screwed themselves when they signed up to have the race on the an NFL Sunday. We go to Brickyard every year and try to catch another one each year.

There's a Nationwide race at Joliet in mid-July. Less big name drivers, way less crowds, same tailgating and racing. No conflict with NFL and it's a night race so you don't have cook in your own juices in the sun.

Have always questioned this, they have 1 race a year? or now even just 2? Seems like some big costs for 1 even? Do they use it for anything else? CUBS!!!!!!!!!!

That is a good question. I have no idea how race tracks make money.

There are technically 2 races in the July weekend and 3 in September. They are all on the same weekend, so I guess that two race weekends. They used to have Indy Cars there once a year too, but they left and went to Milwaukee instead.

And they had the world's largest gathering of Molly users last year too. Ask Slappy about it.

edit: tracks make money by putting sponsorship on every single surface that a sticker can be applied to. Ever seen a race? The Ricky Bobby movie wasn't far off.

I understand how they make money, but wouldnt a "Demo Derby" be worth it? or a JEEP race? or....something? other than just using 2 weekends? and 3rd for a Molly users event?

There are 3 tracks in the Joliet complex - the "Big One" for NASCAR only, the drag strip, and a small 1/4 mile one that they run regular races and demo derby's on pretty much every other week in the summer. .

You could run and touch all of them within.......5-10 minutes. They all share the same parking lots.

Not sure how much $$ they make off of it, but they also have this on the "big" track:

http://www.drivepetty.com/race-tracks/c ... d-speedway

You can pay a few hundred $$ to drive around the track in a race car.
