I would appreciate any donations that come from the good people of this site. $1, $5, $20, anything would be great. This has been something on my bucket list for a while now, so its partly selfish that I am doing this. However I know several families who have had people participate in the Special Olympics, and I'm sure some of you here either know or are related to somebody who has taken part in this event. It is a GREAT cause, and its always nice to be able to do even a little something to give to those less fortunate than I. This goes until March 1 when we all take the plunge, so I will be bumping this every so often.

A buddy of mine has done this 3 out of the last 4 years with his work (https://schillings.com/ ), so I am on their team. I am not sure if they wear uniforms or make Tshirts or whatever. If not, I will be going in wearing just swim shorts. And none of this tippy toe bullshit. I plan to run in to about waist high, dive under the water, then run to the warming tent to drink beer. Go big or go home.

Thank you very much in advance, everybody!!

(also, if anybody wants to join and actually take the plunge, send me a PM and we'll work something out!)

I'm considering doing this up here. I acutally went to the Special Olympics website and filled out
paperwork to vounteer for events and such a few months ago. I never heard a thing back from
them. I didn't know they had all the help they could possibly need. It was disappointing.

I coach in Area 7 and unfortunately the polar plunge has always been the same day as SO swim sectionals so I miss it.

There's one where you dive in the lake once an hour for 24 straight hours.

Couple more weeks? Isn't the point of doing this, is that it happens in the cold? It will practically be Spring in a couple more weeks.

If you had read the original post, it happens on March 1st, 13 days from now. Given the long range forecast, they will likely have to break up ice in order to let us jump into the lake.

Thats actually a good idea, Sam

Lake temp averages suggest the temp should be around 42 degrees. I suspect it'll be closer to 36-37.

You are allowed to donate to the Special Olympics anyday you want. You can even donate monthly, if you wish.

Not necessary to watch fools jump in freezing water or dump a bucket of ice water on themselves.

Its easy
