I have written about this before but it really is a fantastic opportunity to see great theater in a fun setting for free. It will be at different parks throughout Chicago in the next few weeks. You can join me, my family and most likely lover or arts JoeOrr at Loyola Park this weekend. If you have kids, it is a great way to get them exposed to live theater. If it's good enough for Corky St. Clair, it's good enough for me |

Mayor: Drebin, I don't want anymore trouble like you had last year on the South Side. Understand? That's my policy. Frank: Yes. Well, when I see 5 weirdos dressed in togas stabbing a guy in the middle of the park in full view of 100 people, I shoot the bastards. That's *my* policy. Mayor: That was a Shakespeare-In-The-Park production of "Julius Caesar", you moron! You killed 5 actors! Good ones. |

And JORR may be there, but he'll be busy looking at the TVG app on his phone. |

I give you people all sorts of opportunities for cultural enhancement and barely get a response. Fine. Keep sitting there watching Bryant strike out while picking lint out of your navels, I'm going to the theater! |

This is Del Mar season (San Diego)....their late Pick 4 generally starts around 6:00 and ends around 8:00. For example, the biggest race of the Del Mar season, the Pacific Classic, runs about 7:45PM our time. But that's not until late August. |

as i've surely said in any other shakespeare in the park threads over the years, back in 07 i had a chance to do the proper central park version of this (decidedly not free IIRC) when i was out there for a trip and the ex's dad wanted to meet the asshole from chicago nailing his daughter.... so he surprised us with shakespeare in the park tickets! oh joy! i had exactly one thought in my head: "please god not a midsummer night's dream, anything but a midsummer night's dream. lord, i will repent and forever be one of your top soldiers for all eternity if it's anything but a midsummer night's dream" so of course we saw a midsummer night's dream and suffice to say i fucking loathe that play. i hope to god you guys don't get stuck with the same fate. if so please accept my preemptive/proactive apologies. |

for some unknown reason, this year they are doing a mash up of plays This is the ONE opportunity many of the people in attendance will get in seeing Shakespeare performed by quality actors. It is most likely the only time most of the people in attendance will ever become familiar with Shakespeare's words. So instead of taking this unique opportunity to get them interested for themselves by seeing a great play, you dumb it down as a vanity piece for your artistic abilities. Midsummer was performed a couple of years ago. I think everyone is fatigued of that one but there it is being produced by some company every year. |
