L'erable is a small community of 200 or so residents. Downtown features a church and an Old Milwaukee sign hanging off a red building. And a surprising number of cars - all for the Old Milwaukee-pouring Longbranch.
Fairly simple menu - but the food is spectacular. Probably the best prime rib I have ever had - 16 ounces, cooked perfectly - just a great cut. Came with bread, salad bar (soup part of the bar), and a side. The tomato soup was excellent - just a hint of sweetness and great consistency. The creamy vegetable soup was good, too, but I was really in the mood for more tomato soup.
The bread was so soft it basically melted on my tongue.
Salad bar had the two soups. Ranch potato salad, a ramen noodle salad, kidney bean salad, bean salad, etc...Quite the variety. For those who like preparing a tossed salad - that side had little to offer. A lettuce mix, green onions, mushrooms, tomato, and some dressings.
The prime rib was a work of art. I ordered their potato pancake with bacon and cheese filling (this was quite good).
Had iced tea but it was Nestea (yuck).
Total bill $28. I will definitely go back.
The food has been fantastic for years. It's been quite a while since we went, but my wife and I were talikng about it recently.
How did you find this place Fealz? I mean, talk about off the beaten path. My wife is from the area.
