Its been hard to find affordable, completely agree. You are spending a minimum of $10 at any place that is decent.

I think its amazing the lack of decent Italian food in the downtown area. I know I'm an Italian food snob, but still. For instance, I think the Italian Village is average at best.

It's not, really. The jambalaya is fine.

But, their étouffée is always excellent (and the gumbo).

Even if you hear the ingredients for the étouffée and think "nah, not my thing", ignore your instincts and get it. If you're lucky, it will be the Habanero Chicken Jerk Touffee with cornbread - my favorite dish in the world.

The turtle soup is also excellent.

This is an absolutely true story about the end of my first marriage. My father-in-law had given us tickets to see Blue Man Group so we went on a Sunday afternoon. Afterward I wanted to get something to eat. I could tell my alcoholic wife wasn't too interested and she wanted to just go home and start getting loaded. So I was driving and suggesting places and she had a different objection to each one. At the time there was a Heaven on Seven on Clark Street, I think in the space where Sweet Baby Ray's is now. I found a parking space right in front and said, "Okay, we'll go here." At first she was fine with it but then she started grumbling. I asked what the fuck was wrong and got this classic reply: "It's too gumbo-y." Later that night I found myself in the Skokie lockup eating a cheeseburger from Sanders'.

Amazing BBQ at Lake and Wells. Been there a couple times, the brisket is fantastic. mac n cheese quite good as well. My friend had the pulled pork and said it was really good.

I think this is the 3rd or 4th time the guy has closed his 2nd location. The one downtown does very well and it is his mainstay. For whatever reason, when he tries to do another, they end up closing. I am sure it is a strain for that 2nd place and he might just take a break, then open again somewhere. I know 2 of the places he closed when the lease was done, so it wasnt like he closed up and scrwed the owner, just didnt renew.

Leghorn is now open in the small café in the Ohio House motel, if hipster fried chicken is your thing. They deliver as well.

Eggy's - Tried this place for brunch. Really good potatoes, but otherwise wasn't very impressed. Really expensive. Near Millennium Park.

They opened one of these places at Madison & Wells. Madhouse every day. Meanwhile Mom & Pop hambuger stands are just about all gone.

Stayed at the one on Wacker 5 or 6 years ago with a woman I was dating. The room was the size of a goddamn closet. Whenever we waited by an elevator, I would say something like "I can't believe we have a full size basketball court in our room" or "I love the Olympic pool in our room" just to make the other suckers with small rooms jealous.

You could touch both sides of the room with a long enough wingspan. I can't complain too much, though. For the amount of time we spent in the stupid thing, the price wasn't bad.

tried to hit up UB Dogs before mass, but it was too fucking crowded. wound up going to the aforementioned Red Robin's Burger Works after mass. gotta admit it was pretty good (mebbe better than UBD). but it should be noted that I was so damn hungry i could have eaten the crotch out of a dead horse by that time.

Their burger isn't too bad. That said, I'll take five guys over them and most of these higher-scale burger chains.
