Broadway, and maybe Stratford Place? I went to this place Saturday night. It was spur of the moment on Valentine's Day, so finding a place to eat at 8:30 wasn't going to be easy. My wife had eaten here with her gays and she suggested it.

I eat Mexican food a lot. I've been to just about every taqueria in Chicago, from Little Village to Pilsen to Rogers Park. Plus gringo taco joints like El Carrito. And hybrids like Takos Koreanos. And they're like pizza places. Everyone has their favorite. Then there are higher end Mexican places like the Bayless restaurants or the late, great Las Cazuelas on Lawrence and Elston.

When we walked into this place I was immediately disappointed. It seem like Mexican food by Disney. It claimed to be a "Mexican steakhouse". But what a pleasant surprise! The homemade tortillas are seriously the best I've ever had. You could build an entire restaurant just around them. And the guacamole is as good as I've had anywhere. Great margaritas and other cocktails. And the steaks were fine. They overcooked my buddy's New York strip and when he sent it back, they returned with a perfectly cooked one in just moments. The service isn't fine dining level or anything, but competent and friendly. I will definitely go back and I would recommend this place to anyone.

I hope your "buddy" reciprocated for buying him a nice dinner on Valentine's Day.

Have you been to Taqueira San Juacito? http://www.yelp.com/biz/taqueria-san-juanito-chicago

Furious and I are big fans. Best al pastor on the northside as far as I know. Amazing shrimp soup which is what the a lot of the locals get.
