This is just idiotic. All it's going to do is hurt the Mexicans working at the McDonald's in Pilsen where I get $1 large soft drinks on my drive home (and usually some sort of snacky thing like a small fries or a cone) once or twice a week.

do they formally espouse some company line where this tax is gonna help #MakeAmericaThinAgain?! i'm pretty sure bloomberg said something like that to justify his attempt at a similar tax in NYC.

What I'm wondering is how long before people start getting worked up about it. Probably some people have completely forgotten that it even passed since it didn't go into effect immediately. From what I understand it includes the Cook County suburbs, so that has the potential to tick a lot of people off. You have to think some people will drive to other counties to get their drinks. $1.44 extra on a 12 pack of pop will add up very quickly.

Not just pop, but juice too.

They'll fail to meet their "projected" revenue and move on to the next tax/fine to "make us safer".

That clown Toni Preckwinkle has struck again!

And what theme did she win her stirring elevation over the nice, but hapless Todd Stroger on again?

Look, I would have voted for the guy over Toni (had I lived in the city) but hapless? Where did the $500k go?

He bought drinks.

I never thought he was ready for or really wanted the job. I think his greatest "sin" was that he was trying to really cover for all the old patronage county workers & profiteers living off of Madigan's and to a lesser extent, his father's coattails

I'd vote republican in the event she were the official Democratic nominee. Maybe even work a phone bank against that fraud

The government agencies like Cook County and others are out of control. They don't know how to properly budget money. The bottom line is that government needs to learn to do with less when that's what regular people do all the time.

Unlike regular people government agencies rarely ever consider the possibility of ever having less money when they think budget.
