I stopped for lunch at a place today that I have driven past many times but never had actually gone in. It's La Birria Loca in Winfield, a small Mexican food takeout place. They specialize in serving birria beef, which is slow-cooked and made spicy. I had never had this style of taco before which you dip in a spicy au jus like you would a French dip, but it turned out to be surprisingly good. The place is expensive, where you have to pay extra for cheese, but worth it, even paying $17 for three tacos. The beef is very tender and delicious. My one complaint is that they give you onions in a small container when they could put the onions on the tacos. I realize you have to penny pinch as a restaurant owner but onions are not that expensive.
It gets 4.9/5 score on Google reviews with about 5000 reviews. There is not a lot of standing room once you're inside, so be aware you're going to be elbow to elbow with people. The proprietor's father, an elderly Mexican man, is the chef behind the scenes.
It's located next to the Winfield Fire Station, very close to the Winfield train station just west of Winfield Rd.
What is it East of? Your directions are unclear
