I've always just viewed this as a shitty chain sandwich place, which I still believe for the most part... but they have an outstanding Chipotle philly steak sandwich.

This was just a public service announcement.

I anxiously await IMU's review.

I got food poisoning the first time I went at the Streets of Woodfield. I finally decided to try it again a year ago. It’s fine. Nothing special.

I tried the Philly Cheese a while back...thought it sucked. The cheese, when melted, was nasty.

That said, they do make a fine roast beef and provolone.

Did you try the steak and cheese or a different sub? I think their other subs suck.

Typically I’ll do something with salami and pepperoni or ham. I honestly can’t recall but it wasn’t the steak and cheese. The only time I get steak and cheese is when I am in Philly. Nothing locally compares to me.

I saw that Pittsburgh place that puts fries on the sandwiches has a place near Indianapolis.

Yeah Primanti's is branching out. I choose the fires on the side.

Jersey Mike's is decent, not great. Still probably the best of the national sub chains.

I've been a BIGFAN of Jimmy John's since 1991 so I generally would prefer them, though Mike's is a nice change of pace.

Jimmy John's is godawful. Incredibly bland.

Never understood the love.

I don't say much good about JJ's but I never say anything bad. In other words it is one block from my lab and consistent when I need a sammich.

I have a friend who grew up in Cherry Hill, NJ and she says that Jersey Mike's is a reasonable facsimile of a real Philly cheesesteak and one of the closer versions she has had in Chicago. According to her the closest to authentic is Monti's at Lawrence near Western. They use real Amoroso rolls.

Boom! There it is. The East Coasters agree with me.

Jersey Mike's is good but feels expensive for what it is.

I don't get the real attraction of the real Philly cheese steak unless it is the hey I had one once in my life. I mean I would have one again but go out of my way? No.

I never noticed any giants tubs of cheese whiz at Jersey’s Mikes. And the bun is a big part of the attraction. That aside, I will consider trying one there.

stop it

There are plenty of authentic philly cheese steak places in the city run by Philadelphians who import all the authentic ingredients.

There really is nothing to it as far as a secret recipe, unlike an eye tie beef that requires roasting, unique marinade and giardinara.

I like a cheese steak but it just doesn't have the flavors of a beef.

Dennis, MANY do not know what the "real" Philly cheese must be.

I despise Jimmy John's. It's a very small step above Subway. I think Jersey Mike's is a big step above. It will do in a pinch but if I have time there are premium sandwich shops throughout the city
