Hardee's wants piece of Chicago's crowded burger market
October 03, 2013
Make room for more burgers. Hardee's Food Systems continues its expansion into the Chicago market.

The California-based chain opened a location in Midlothian yesterday, its second in metro Chicago. The first came to Bolingbrook in August. Prior to that, the closest was in Portage, Ind.

More are on the way. Franchisees will open in Elk Grove Village, Prospect Heights, West Chicago and Warrenville before the end of the year. At least 35 Hardee's will blanket the Chicago area in the next seven years, the company said.

Chicago, it seems, has become a magnet for burger chains, with at least nine other local and national players challenging McDonald's Corp. on its home turf.

Hardee's, a wholly owned subsidiary of CKE Restaurants Holdings Inc. of Carpinteria, Calif., made headlines about a decade ago for its giant gut bomb called the Monster Thickburger. The two-third-pound burger packed nearly 1,500 calories.

OBITUARY
Ray A. Kroc dies at 81; Built McDonald's Chain

By ERIC PACE

Ray A. Kroc, the builder of the McDonald's hamburger empire, who helped change American businiess and eating habits by deftly orchestrating the purveying of billions of small beef patties, died yesterday in San Diego. He was 81 years old and lived in La Jolla, Calif.

Mr. Kroc, who also owned the San Diego Padres baseball team, died of a heart ailment at Scripps Memorial Hopsital in San Diego, a McDonald's spokesman said. At his death he was senior chairman of McDonald's.

Mr. Kroc, a former piano player and salesman of paper cups and milkshake machines, built up a family fortune worth $500 million or more through his tireless, inspired tinkering with the management of the McDonald's drive-ins and restaurants, which specialize in hamburgers and other fast-food items.

He was a pioneer in automating and standardizing operations in the fiercely competitive, multibillion-dollar fast-food industry. He concentrated on swiftly growing suburban areas, where family visits to the local McDonald's became something like tribal rituals.

I think they probably see the Burger King and Arby's locations closing and see an opportunity for another chain.

Or just go to Augustino's, and get some good food.

She never cared so much about the stores.

After she made some money from the stores she opened a wholesale noodle company for Thai places and is making a killing do that. I know she has a 50,000 SF facility in ravenswood.

She made some great, fresh Thai food before anyone else did around here, but now you can order from one of a million places just as good. Cozy Noodle Shop is almost too good, the wait for Pickup is now a solid hour.

Lived literally a mile from the Penny's in Oak Park, and I went there once...and that was only to meet a friend there.

Mini Ditka, I cant find the thread where we were discussing your signature about Bernstein, but someone told you he himself believes in God, right?

He just thinks anyone who is passionate about religion is dumb.

He said that anyone who believes in God is stupid. That's essentially why he mocks Tim Tebow and others.

No, he didnt.

Why are you lying?

Why not just go with the similar truth?

He said it on the air during transition.

If he did, I will apologize, but I doubt it.

What day?

And he said those exact words?

Check this one out: http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2013/04/07/ ... g-his-job/

[Rose] also made yet another reference to the role of the supernatural in his comeback, saying that he has been “just waiting, just praying about it.” This after his repeated insistence that “Nobody knows but God,” “Only God knows,” and “It’s in God’s hands.”

Actually, his knee was trusted to the hands of Dr. Cole. If the time has come to stop obeying him and instead listen to some invisible sky-being, then he should have the latter repair the torn ligament next time. Do a laying-on of hands, light some candles and hope for the best. No more silly medicine for him like reconstructive surgery, if higher powers of healing have taken over the job.
