Chili does not need a friggin hershey bar or kisses in it. That being said I have heard of people putting unsweetened cocoa powder in it. I would not but to each there own.

chili was meant to be an all in type of meal. Make it anyway you want as long as it tastes good...and doesn't contain bodily fluids.

I could see that addition really helping out as well. I've used Pacifico in the past, but never a real dark beer. I will have to give this a shot next time.

Doug makes a pretty good chili, though his is a bit spicier than I prefer. The great thing about chili is that you can make it very plain with regards to heat, and then add red pepper or hot sauce upon serving for those who prefer that sort of taste.

I think the point of the "chocolate" is that you're altering the overall chemical makeup and trying to add a sweetness to your chili. Not something I would do, but whatever.

I make my chili with beer. If I left the beer out and made it available to add, it would not cook up right. Same basic principal applies here.

There is no better option than beer though.

The only value added by a Hershey Kiss is provided by the minimal amount of cocoa that is contained within it. The rest of the stuff you don't even really want to add to your chili.

At least get something with a higher cocoa content if that is what you want. It's the same reason that we don't make chili with ketchup.

Despite bigfan's incredulous beliefs on breakfast, I would bet that his chili is pretty damn good. I am perfectly fine with being on his and Dr Ken's side regarding just a bit of chocolate in a pot of chili.
