I need to hurry up and buy a new grill...didn't take care of the last one (didn't cover it for two plus years, winters included)...bottom of it had been rusting out for a while but it was still serviceable...however the hose has a leak in it now...

...anyone have any experience with any gas/charcoal combos? Sounds like something I'd really enjoy (can use the propane during the week and charcoal on the weekend) but the one I was looking at was only 300, which seemed like it would indicate it's a pretty shitty grill.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I have this exact grill right now. 3 years.

I like the fact that I can do both and it doesn't take up as much space.....but that's the drawback. If you are having people over and need a lot grill space - using only one side or the other - it's pretty small. I had a big ass, stainless, propane prior to this and never used all of the space.

I'll never buy an expensive, giant propane again. They all rust out and need new burners after a few years, so might as well use a cheaper model.

That'd be the ideal scenario...but seeing as I'm buying one new one this year, I don't really want to be buying two...

...unless I just go with another gas one for now and do the charcoal one later. Which grills are you rocking?

One word of caution - only a very specific cover will fit on this grill because of it's shape. You won't be able to buy, say, a random "Cyclones Rule" cover and expect it to fit.

Yeah, I've thought of that...I'll just take a magic marker and write "Bill Self is a penis" on it.

My Daughter wants Corned Beef & Cabbage before she goes back to College tomorrow so I'm cooking a 10 pound Corned Beef brisket.
I could eat this stuff every single day.

Jaspers has 1 CB brisket left last Saturday. Mrs. Scorehead puts it in her cart and asks the big guy with the mustache for the price and he says that it is sold. So we went to GFS and they had a bunch of them. 6 of us damn near ate the whole thing. Now it's time for the Baileys.

My charcoal is the classic Weber round. You can't go wrong with one of these.

My gas grill is a Char Broil 5 burner (one on the side) that I picked up for $229, four years ago. It hasn't even started to rust yet, because I keep it covered. As soon as it rusts, I will throw it away, and buy another one right before winter, when they are marked down. I'm not paying $800 for a Weber gas grill that does the exact thing that the Charbroil does for 1/3 of the price.

Last night I grilled some skirt steak after marinading it overnight in the following: freshly squeezed lime, lemon and orange juice; toasted and re-hydrated morita chilis; dark molasses; worcestshire sauce; pressed garlic; olive oil; and salt and pepper.

This is one of my favorite grilling recipes. It is fairly easy to make and is always delicious. I've cooked it for a lot of people, and it always is a huge hit.

is it marinating ? or marinading ?

the one thing in the recipe i find interesting is the molasses, i basically use the same ingredients more or less other than that, although i don't normally use worcestshire either

and it has to be outer skirt steak.

One of my favorite low-effort meals is this recipe for grilled pork chops:

Brine 4-6 thick cut (1.5-2.0 inches) chops for 1 hour. Dry with paper towels then apply this dry rub:

2.5 tsp Ancho chili powder
1 tsp. Guajillo chili powder
1.5 tsp. Chipotle chili powder
1.5 tbsp ground cumin (preferably freshly ground)
1.5 tsp garlic powder
3.5 tsp dark brown sugar

Sear over hardwood charcoal, cover and cook for approximately 10 minutes.

I was out of the grilling scene for about the last 3 years. Last week, I picked up an older Weber Go Anywhere grill with the wood handles for 30 bucks. Looks like it was never used.

Got the chimney starter and some Stubbs charcoal and cooked up some burgers last night. Awesome. I love charcoal grilling. Going to have to get some of that Big Fork sausage that Bagels brought up.

Fired up the Weber yesterday and cleared the yard of all the sticks my dog has brought home all winter long. Grilled swordfish and brought it in only to find it wasn't finished inside. Threw it in the microwave for a minute since the whole family was assembled and waiting for dinner. Not one of my finer grilling moments. Tasted fine though.

Bough this over the weekend, as my previous grill crapped out a couple weeks ago. Made lemon/garlic/oregano-marinated pork chops on Saturday, then stuffed burgers on it yesterday. Already needs a thorough cleaning.

Unless someone wants to bring me something grilled. I'm sure I'll fire up the Brinkmann tomorrow night.
