Look at all the captains of self-discipline in here.

I'm with America - I grew up drinking Diet because that's what was in the house. Regular pop tastes like pure sugar to me. That said, I don't drink either much anymore. Also, thanks to Don Tiny, we've purchased Coke Zero the past couple weeks. It's better than Diet.

It doesn't take self discipline to realize all soda drinks are trash as hell on their own, health and taste wise.

You and I have literally drank gallons of whiskey in a single night. I'm not worried about Diet Coke.

In an hour I will have gone 48 hours without any diet soda. I drank 8 oz of regular A&W with dinner on Friday, and just water and beer yesterday, and so far today just espresso with cream, and water. I'm going to see if I can get to the White Sox game on Tuesday without having any, that would be 4 days.

It gets easier with time, as with anything. Soon you’ll look at soda and ask yourself did I really drink that shit?

Yeah, about 5 years ago I cut back on the volume over a summer but didn't cut it out completely. I started drinking more iced coffee and Gatorade G2 then.

I would like to only have it at the two baseball games i'm attending this week, one at Guaranteed Rate and one at Wrigley.

Do you think anyone would care if I drank an ice-cold glass of whiskey in my office every morning?

Isn't it weird that it was commonplace back when we were supposedly less open-minded?

I always did my best work when I was drinking. Or it at least seemed that way.

I’ll occasionally treat myself with a Mexico Coca Cola with pure cane sugar. Usually when I’m out eating. Delicious with some fish tacos.

i drank a shit ton of pop for years. i eventually realized that i was pounding 600+ calories a day in sugar. so i switched to diet. diet dr pepper and a few others were about the only diet drinks i could drink that didn't taste like shit. but eventually i think they were doing a number on my tum tum so i was like what else can i drink as i'm a carbonation junky. i don't like just water.

SO. we went on a fishing trip in the heat of summer. we are in the boonies in a camper and all i brought with me was a few packs of la croix waters. lime and grapefruit. i basically forced myself to drink them. after the week was over i'd gotten use to them.

its now what i drink 95% of the time. i drink a few cups of coffee in the morning, sometimes some juice, every once in a while i enjoy a mt dew or a coke but la croix is where its at. but the first 1 or 10 you drink tastes like shit.

If you drink it for taste, then switch to sparkling water. You don't get the black sludge taste from it but you get the rest of it.
If you drink it for caffeine, then find a coffee based drink you like. I don't like coffee but learned to like lattes. Once you do, get a Nespresso machine. Those things are pretty amazing. I got the newest version which does coffee too. The pods are expensive though because no one makes it besides the people that make the machine. That hopefully changes one day. It's still worth it though especially compared to getting it from a coffee shop that still charges 3x more.

After about a month of not having a diet coke you'll wonder how you drank it. It's just not a pleasing taste after you don't have it for a while. I was at one point drinking a 2 liter of it on some days and now I don't miss it at all.

I've actually had a lot of success simply switching to bottled water. As long as I keep it stocked and cold it replaces the sensation.

Which is a new vice because its pretty terrible for the environment, but at least it doesnt rot my teeth.

I have some unhealthy habits but damn, I cannot imagine drinking a 2 liter of coke in one day. That's gotta be brutal.

It’s not hard to do. I know people who drank whole 12 packs in a day on a consistent basis. Seems crazy. And no, you don’t want to do the calorie count on that. Amazingly, a few I know who drink that amount and are crazy thin.

My mom drinks coke all day. I honestly don't recall ever seeing her drink water. Somehow she's thin and healthy though. Lucky Caller Bob.

The things is it took me a while to notice it. On days I was really tired I'd have my first one about 7am as I didn't drink coffee. I'd then have one pretty much every two hours. It's the equivalent of like 6 cans.

I quit during Lent. It is difficult at the beginning, especially with greasy foods like burgers, fries and pizza. At the end of six weeks I can hardly stomach more than half a serving but it slowly gets back. I just feel fuller at lunch with a soda. I come home ravenous during Lent, to the point that I'm agitated if diner isn't ready the moment I walk in the door (and it rarely is).

Yeah, I’ve quit it before, well regular as diet just tastes awful to me for most part. It’s amazing how fast you creep up to drinking just as much as before. And yes, it leaves me incredibly hungry. Summer is a hard time for me to quit as I get tired of water. I just cut back for a week or so and drop to Those little mini cans and then I’m done. Taking the kids to fast food and stuff is murder on it as water with a burger just doesn’t do it.

Aspartame is straight up poison.
All soda has way too much sodium.

Learn to appreciate unsweetened, unflavored Iced tea.

On that note, most of the prebottled iced teas are terrible or just as unhealthy. It's not hard to make your own and if you are trying to get off diet coke make it really strong. There are a lot of really easy ways to make it at home.

Just the sweetened or both? I know sweetened iced tea is basically sugarwater.

Unsweetened is good though they seemed rare.

Last time I drank that Arizona shit it gave me a headache. This was a couple years ago.

Like Red Bull (and Monster or whatever else) it's just not fit for human consumption. I think a dog would reject it, which is a bad sign.

We cold brew ours. Put one Lipton gallon bag in a glass jar and stick it in the fridge. You can leave the bag in as the cold brewing process doesn’t extract the bitter elements of the tea. Sun tea gets that sludge at the bottom of the jug. Cold brewing stays clear. Best tea ever.
