There is a "club" around the corner that has been closed for years with an apt upstairs, complete destruction with ceiling falling in so you can see the apartment. Everything left in the bar. Sold for like $150K, next to cousins...which is for sale now.

Leader bar was a warehouse for years. Filled with old slot machines, pinball etc. couldnt move. Upstairs was a flop house. guys paid the owner 50 or 100 a month for a room. The basement had no stairs, but about 4 feet of water when we looked at it.

Leader Bar used to be Leader Liquors with a taproom where all the old neighborhood drunks fell asleep in their beer. I'm surprised they didn't re-brand it when they remodeled the place. They could have called it DePaul Academy.

How many bars/liquor licenses would you guys say there are on Irving between Ashland and the Kennedy? It's got to be near 40. I've been to over 20 I bet. that's 24 city blocks.

I'm still lamenting the closing of Queen Albert's.

Or El Gato Negro. That was a real salt-of-the-earth, lunchpail tranny bar.

That place was great. A chick I used to hang out with loved going there. I didn't know it was gone.

I'm also a big fan of Resi's and Laschet's. Two Dollar mystery beer at Resi's. Sonny the Lithuanian drummer working the bar. Good times! Laschet's is old school German. I've been drunk at the bar and singing "Deutschlandlied" with a bunch of old Krauts. I can get by on my last name and pidgin German.

Another great place just beyond your boundary- Joe E's Unforgettable.

Do the significant others know that you two boilermakers are hooking up?
Any salad bar recommendations in the area?

Laschett's is kind of my go to German place now. It really has such a great feel to it.
