Steamed bread, not toasted. The subs were very good, but overpriced and very slow. Closest comparison is Penn Station. For subs, I prefer Potbelly or Jersey Mike’s.

Just had my 1st Firehouse yesterday. It wasn't remotely like Penn Station other than cost...Penn Stations are toasted and worth the money. Firehouse was average at best. I was quite disappointed.

I agree they are not comparable...toasted v. steamed very different. Where I found them similar was that they are both warm, expensive, and have way too much in condiments.

I don't think either of them are worth the $$.

i'm a bit late to the party here, but as a lifelong pudgeball i can vouch for firehouse subs being good. last week me and my brother were like "oh shit we can do firehouse!" when going to the rifftrax live thingy @ golf mill but were surprised when that gof mill / golf-n-milwaukee location ended up being closed for a few months. fuckin ell m8.

its good enough to warrant an effort to hit up when you're in the neighborhood of one, but it's not really like "go way out of your way just to go there" good. if it's downtown by a workplace amongst the usual cornucopia of good/ish places i'd think it's definitely worthy of a bi/weekly rotation.

Not bad, but not something I would go out of my way for at all. In fact, I am not sure if I'll ever be back to Firehouse, with all of the other options available downtown.

I'll take a wreck from Potbelly, or an Italian Night Club from Jimmy Johns before thinking of this place.

Better than Subway, though.

Eactly...Wreck from Potbelly is better and less expensive. Then there's the sugar cookie at Potbelly.....mmmmmmmm.

subway works for me when it's time to re-up my membership in the #10DollarSubClub which ends up being a footlong italian BMT with either double or triple bacon added on and then every form of hot sauce/peppers/shit on there (first time i did it i asked if they had gasoline to pour on it because i wanted a sandwich that put up an admirable effort to defeat me. i just got looked at kind of funny which is pretty much the default response i get when i'm 'in the zone' like that) offset by only a single line of mayo and of course vinegar and oil and half the damn bottle of parmesian.

if the sandwich isn't brimming with bacon and dripping some sort of mostly-red sauce from the back end while also gushing out front after each bite then you haven't gotten enough hot sauce on there and your #10DollarSubClub membership may end up under review. when done properly each bite should be the rough equivalent of taking a big ol bite of dragon shit, thus setting you up for round 2 with the sandwich when it blazes a trail through your body. remember, that fireball you're likely to unleash upon the world is your badge of honor from the #10DollarSubClub. you're eligible for a GOLD 10 Dollar Sub Club membership if you can get a blumpkin while you're unleashing the kind of shit that Jared and Mike Trout (read Mike Trout and who?) are/were well-compensated to encourage you to have.

I had a coupon for a free medium sub, so I got the Corned Beef Brisket sandwich today. Meh. Slightly better than Subway and Jimmy John's. I probably won't go back. With Augustino's and Schmaltz Deli nearby, there is no need.
