its funny, in my grandma's last few years she always felt guilty about all the work involved for my mom and others and would be like "we should just get a pizza" but no one had the heart to say 'yes we would all much rather have that '

and then after she died everyone felt guilty about ditching everything so we still do it to honor her . its once a year, build character

Yeah, a few years ago when I helped my Mom make the pierogi, we could knock out about 15-20 per hour, with the filling already made. I think back to when Grandma fed 18 of us, with some of the big eaters knocking back 20 of those bad boys, she musta worked about 40 hours to prepare all of the dumplings alone.

Lasagna is still work, but much less

Going to cook a chuck roast in the crock pot for the wife and me tomorrow with rice and corn. Going to my parents house in Ottawa for turkey on Thursday.

Xmas Eve tradition in the young Noisewater home was always oyster stew with a shot of brandy in it.

Christmas tradition on my dad's side of the family is "scalloped oysters".
I love oysters in many styles, but I cannot eat that stuff. it's really bad.

Turned out everyone went nuts on dessert this year. Had this German chocolate mousse cake from Costco... oh my gawd. Mom made sugar cookies with hersey kisses inside and powdered sugar on the outside. Oh, and smurf cake.

Christmas Eve at my in-laws is breakfast for dinner (ugh)
Christmas Eve with my family is a smattering of appetizers and a whole lot of booze (we're Irish)
Christmas Day at my in-laws is turkey (my MIL makes it quite well, so I mind it a little less than normal)
Christmas Day with my family depends on who is hosting...this year, we were with my family for Christmas Day, and it was a sad looking turkey dinner...I subsided on mashed potatoes until we got up by home and stopped at Fridays.
