While I will mock anyone who calls the slow cooker, "cooking" I understand the functionality of it. It's just not cooking. Many females in my life consider this cooking. I don't.

Buying fresh ingredients...preparing them by cutting / mincing / mixing / combining...placing them into a powered cooking apparatus...

Not cooking?

Is cooking now required to be over an open flame only?

Casseroles, you're out!
Stir fries and woks, you're out!
Baking a cake? Get that shit outta here!

Eating at those places is the worst! Really expensive, very little food and nothign better than sitting next to a hot pot of grease and the fumes catching you in the face.

You walk out like the guy working the fries machine at McD's.

Keep it

DW makes meatballs and sauce in the crockpot. Cooks for like 8 hours. Nice football smell/food. Awesome shit. Maybe I'll get you the recipe. I think its mostly hamburger.

A proper fondue restaurant in Switzerland is so great. Also, add ricolletta [SP?]

My wife's cauliflower soup tonight was outstanding.

Score one for the crockpot.

a real fondue is cheese, preferably on the shore of Lac Léman. Crisco probably created the oil one. Raclette.

The cheese tastes great and they add a liquor called Kirsch to it.

I've been to good sandwich places.

Does that mean Jimmy John's is cooking?

edit: Wait - wtf? Any BBQ place ever slow cooks.

That there slow cooker is larger makes the difference?

Thank you.

I've heard you always cook on low, even if it calls for high, and make sure you have it about 2/3 of the way full...any less and the slow cooker gets the stuff too hot and it could burn off or boil a bit. Just cook on low and give it a solid 8-10 hours to do its thing. The good news is there are about 2.3 million recipes online...so there is plenty to try out in order to get the hang of it.

In your defense, there probably weren't any electrical outlets available.

With low heat and removable crock I hope it won't be that hard.

BBQ uses slow cooking to break down fat inside large pieces of meat that cooking it in other method would never cook the centers of and the fat in pork would never break down. Addtionally, a spice rub, preparing the meat, knowing when it is done and the correct temp is a complete art. A small change in temp 250 to 300 could screw up the whole thing.

but if you wish to think you are doing the same thing, OK.

Now go down to Memphis and have this discussion with a pitmaster lol...I would like to watch.
